after adding that to your .htaccess, you may still see that referer in your raw apache logs. Just make sure you see that theyre getting a 403.

How would I do that? I’m not looking at raw apache logs (I don’t know what they are honestly) I’m looking at awstats from my c-panel.

inside cpanel, you should be able to locate “raw access logs”. Click that link and you can download them (access logs). Thats just a 24 hour snapshot.

You should also do monthly raw logging .. thats set up after clicking that link as well.

Archive Logs in your home directory at the end of each stats run [ [every 1 day(s)]]

check that. Your logs will be archived monthly in a dir called logs that you can download when you ftp in..

the directory, logs, will be visible inside the same directory that your public_html is inside of.. NOT within it. archived logs are NOT web accessable, in other words.

In your .htaccess remove the line YOU added .. the one in your original paste.

.. also what directory are you managing the hotlinking in? Your entire site, which would be covered by the .htaccess were discussing now, or in another directory, like an images directory??

If you are managing another sub directory — stop looking in cpanel, and look at the .htaccess in THAT directory via https://ftp.. the same way hopefully, youre looking at the one we’re talking about.

ASO just got back to me (that was quick!):

There isn’t a way to remove tvsetmp3.com from your AWStats referrers, but the site was able to be added to your Hotlink Protection because your .htaccess file was world-writable. I’ve removed it from .htaccess and changed the file’s permissions so it’s now only writable by Apache and your account, so it can’t be added again. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Like I said I’m new to paid hosting, so the way I know to do things may not be the “right” way. I had never even heard of .htaccess until last week. When I’m talking about hotlink protection, I’m talking about the thing under security in the c-panel that says “hotlink protection.” The site is not showing up there anymore, now that Jeff fixed it for me. However I noticed that when I enable the protection (it wasn’t enabled previously) the header image on my blog disappears.

Yeap, a world writable .htaccess is a no-no Its done that way initially when you set up your pretty permalinks, but once thats done, you want to make sure its atleast chmod 644

and aso is the very best hosting you can get for the money — theyre pretty good ?? almost as good as where I work ??
