How is it possible that this page is editable? I didn’t add any javascript. It’s a local save of a copy of a “block editor” composition. It is linked to bootstrap, but it makes no sense to me. That doesn’t seem correct.

    What am i missing?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I can see you use WordPress on your main domain, but you do not seem to use WordPress on that specific URL.

You perhaps load some strange custom code into WordPress, rather than using the CMS to create posts/pages?

The parent /adb/ seems some sort of directory navigation, and the particular file (a phtml file that is definitely NOT part of WordPress) is something else, that you have added – it is certainly not part of the WordPress install.

Oh. Sorry. I didn’t realize i’d need to specify, or thought i did.
Yeah, I noticed it in a local save of a copy of a “block editor” composition. Oh, wait. I did say that. I missed the part where I said it was a wordpress install.

Just seems odd to me that would be the result of basically HTML technically unrelated to a WordPress dependencies, though the primary block was created by WordPress.

Hopefully it’s not indicative of security risk yet unbeknown. Beyond that, i’m not concerned either.

    Cheers!

No server. No Javascript. The Bootstrap CSS links remain. Everything else was placed there by WordPress block editor.
EDIT: Correction. The H1 at the top IS NOT placed there by WordPress, and it is NOT editable. No problem here here. I like magic as much as the next guy. Nothing up my sleeve. No extensions (as you can see Edge is in Private mode)

I’ve never seen a plain HTML page editable like that before. Just seems weird to me.
I’ll chalk it up to magic.

Take the code from the page above, and see for yourself. That’s what I just did.

    Update:
    This is why it’s happening.
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Global_attributes/contenteditable

    contenteditable=true

    why does WordPress add that?

WordPress blocks are used to create contents of posts/pages, or widgets, or since FSE, also other parts of a website.
They aren’t used in the front end. In the Front End, these blocks will render the HTML (such as headings, paragraphs, etc etc)

No content editable is added by blocks to the front end, and no blocks themselves are used in the front end.
They are used in the backend of the website, to build its looks and contents.

I am not sure what the purpose is of what you attempt, and why you expect these blocks to be used the way you use them.

If I miss something, please feel free to add precise reasoning and steps (in a reasonable and un-offensive, un-sarcastic way) to the problem so others can understand and help you

As far my availability goes to help on this problem here, I assume it is exhausted, since I do not seem to follow the reasoning.

    Thanks

I was not familiar with the HTML element attribute contenteditable.

I guess that’s the secret to “Gutenberg”. Seems like it has caused a lot of problems and so called “growing pains” in the community.

    That’s all. Thank you.

I seriously can’t believe WordPress was put into production in this state. It’s not my responsibility to ensure it functions correctly.

That hyperlink should NOT direct the user from the page. This is supposed to be an Edit mode. WordPress is so broken since that Gutenberg nonsense. I’m sorry. I know you don’t want to hear that.

While I really don’t think I understand what you’re complaining about, nor what your goals are, either with this thread nor with your work you show in the thread links you’ve shared, we can agree on the opinion you express about the Gutenberg blocks experience.

Wouldn’t it be inadequate, wouldn’t it be a public and moderated forum, I’d freely use very immature words to describe the whole blocks stuff.

But, you know, no one forces you (yet) to use it.
You can simply ignore all the fuss and continue using classic, or let’s call it professional methods such as the tinyMCE editor, or venture into ClassicPress if you feel more adventurous.

I for myself just – no matter what I do – avoid blocks like a plague. And so far, this approach has saved me tons of time, and provided me respectable amounts of paid work ??

Hope that your projects allow you to take a similar approach
