• Hello,

I am brand new to wordpress so please excuse my lack of knowledge. As the title says I have not been able to remove the block of colour behind the page content leaving the background visible.

None of the CSS I have copied and pasted from forums has worked. Neither have I been able to find a plugin that does the trick. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have also found some of the more sophisticated themes which specialise in displaying site backgrounds do not display page content at all. Any ideas about what to do when this happens?

Finally, how would you suggest going about learning to code? I understand CSS is not a programming language? As a student I would like to learn coding (computer science?) in my spare time. As you can tell I am a complete novice at the moment.

    Thank you!

    Hi again @philosophical,

What background are you trying to show? A colour or an image?

I can see on the site you linked to that there are several different bits of CSS changing the background colour – there’s white, black, and blue.

Hey Neil, the website is now hosted at sweall.com – I’d like to try different images such as this one. My main concern is the blue block of colour which remains behind the website content and in front of the background image. Your notice on the website when you scroll down A bar of dark blue colour remains at the very top of the page. That is the website background at the moment but it is obscured by the lighter blue block of colour behind the website content. Any advice about how to change the opacity of this later block of colour and remove it altogether would be greatly appreciated.

    Hiya @philosophical,

So you’re looking for something like this?

I got that by using the Customizer and selecting the image you linked to as the Background.

In the Colours section of the Customizer the second option “Background Color” is what sets your black background. Although this looks like it’s being overwritten by a plugin giving you a custom background which is blue. Is that right?

    Hey Neil,

Perhaps slothitude.com is a better example? As you can see the background image is displayed perfectly well but the “twenty seventeen” theme provides no opportunity to place articles, images, widgets or custom html over the image/video.

I’m looking really for a compromise between sweall and slothitude which will allow me to place content directly over a background.

Thanks for taking the time to help.
