Translations Question

Hi,

In WP 4.0+, you can change WordPress language from Settings->General menu as well.

This unfortunately doesn’t resolve my problem.

Let me try to explain my self better.
I have WordPress 4.1 installation. Only two plugins activated are WPL (basic) and Polylang.

I downloaded wpl-en_US.po, used Poedit to make wpl-hr_HR.po (generated .mo file too). The translation is still in course, but I updated the partial .po and .mo files to check it (I uploaded it in same folder with English language .po and .mo files). WordPress installation is not picking up WPL translated strings but shows only English strings.

After changing of language in Settings->General menu and following earlier post and clearing listing cached data from WPL noting happens. WPL still remains in English language. Also polylang does not pick up any WPL string to translate beside widget names.

More ever I used polylang to link Properties page (generated by WPL) to its Croatian equivalent. If I add shortcode [WPL] to this new page it does list properties but when I click on it the property detailed page is opened in Properties page and not in Croatian page.

If I generate shortcode on that specific page (Croatian equivalent for properties page – linked together buy polylang) it does list properties but it does not open detailed property page on click.

I’m not sure if this is connected or not.

Now is there any specific WPL side option where translation of plugin needs to be activated? Is WPL able to run on multy-language sites?

First of all for creating a multilingual real estate website using WPL you need to have WPL PRO. Multilingual support is included in WPL PRO.

If you’re using polylang plugin you should select backend/frontend language using this plugin. You can set it by going to Settings->Languages->Settings->Default Language.

oh I understand, basic WPL plugin is not supporting more than one language? Understandable.

Still if I switch language to Croatian in polylang and wordpress settings WPL shows only in English language. (Could it be since po and mo files are only partly translated in Croatian?)

No, It’s not related to partly translated language file. You can even translate one keyword. Please make sure, you placed your po and mo file in correct place and correct name. File name should be wpl-hr_HR.mo

Also you should place it in this path: /path/to/wordpress/wp-content/languages/real-estate-listing-realtyna-wpl/wpl-hr_HR.mo
or /path/to/wordpress/wp-content/languages/real-estate-listing-realtyna-wpl-pro/wpl-hr_HR.mo for PRO members.

Adding Croatian translation files to this path: /path/to/wordpress/wp-content/languages/real-estate-listing-realtyna-wpl/wpl-hr_HR.mo did not work and no translated strings are picked up.(originally there was no such folder so I made it and add the wpl-hr_HR.mo and wpl-hr_HR.po file)

Then I tried to add Croatian language where English language .po and .mo are located: /path/to/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/languages/real-estate-listing-realtyna-wpl/wpl-us_US.mo, adding there Croatian wpl-hr_HR.po nad wpl-hr_HR.mo files did not pick up translated strings.

So I checked where other plugin hold their translation and path was as follows: /path/to/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/languages/xxx.mo adding the wpl-hr_HR.po nad wpl-hr_HR.mo files there still did not pick up translated strings.

BUT I found solution ??

The problem was naming of po. and .mo files in Croatian language. Correct name for Croatian translation is wpl-hr.po and wpl-hr.mo.

However I also tested where mentioned translations needs to be saved and WordPress picked up translated strings from all mentioned locations:

/path/to/wordpress/wp-content/languages/real-estate-listing-realtyna-wpl/wpl-hr.mo

/path/to/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/languages/real-estate-listing-realtyna-wpl/wpl-hr.mo

/path/to/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/languages/wpl-hr.mo

I was trying to solve this problem on my site a few days ago … and was already thinking of giving up and install a plugin to translate the site (but would not want to install a translator). But now, following his drama, was with his help solve the problem. The orientation change the folder language file “/ path / to / wordpress / wp-content / languages / real-estate-listing-realtyna-WPL /” never worked, but his guidance helped me a lot and solved my problem .
