Translation of portfolio slug

I have an issue with the translation of my portflio slug. The default language of my website is German. The URL structure of my subpages in German is as follows:
https://www.smarttravelers.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/italien/venedig/lagune-von-venedig/
The English translation of the same subpage looks like that:
https://www.smarttravelers.de/en/sehenswuerdigkeiten/italy/venice/venetian-lagoon/
I also want to translate my German portfolio slug (sehenswuerdigkeiten) into English (sights). Unfortunately, that does not seem to work with WPML. WPML support told me that there is a conflict between their plugin and the ‘Custom Post Type Permalink’ plugin that doesn’t allow to translate the slug in the URL as requested.
Do you have a solution for that issue?
