Translation not working

I am using this plugin with this theme but i am having trouble to show the translations on the front end. I am Portuguese and, after i make a pt_PT .op file it changes the things on the backend i translated but the frontend remains in english. Namely the page name “Events”.
I even changed the french .po file to pt_PT to test it, and the same is happening (backend translated and frontend in english).
I am also using WPML and even added these strings to it to be translated. Even after this nothing changed.
Do you have any idea what might be happening? Thank you for your help.
