    There’s some multilingual issues with this plugin. For some reason it overrides WordPress translations, so that my Authors pages now says “Author” (English) instead of the translated string “Forfatter” (in Norwegian). Deactivating the plugin fixes this. This might be an issue other places as well that I haven’t discovered yet.

    It’s also no support for changing text in customisations. For exampel if I want to include recent posts in Author boxes, the text “Recent posts” will be in English.

    While I don’t expect the whole plugin to be translated (which would take hours), I should be able to control what visitors to the site see. Untranslated strings make my site look amateurish, so it makes the plugin unusable.

    The easy fix is to rely on wordpress core for translation of common strings by using ‘wordpress’ as text-domain instead of your own plugin, like this:

    __( 'Author', 'wordpress')
__( 'Recent Posts', 'wordpress')

    Adding an option to change text that is shown on front-end is another.

    Thanks for trying to fix this. I commented on github as well.

    But, as noted, the best solution is to use use wordpress-core translations whenever it is available.

    Translating plugins is a hassle. There’s all kind of long, but pointless (to the user) strings with advertising for Pro versions and add-ons. Help text and instructions is mostly only visible to page admins. Most admins (outside the major languages at least) will have to be quite familiar with English anyway, so translating this text is kind of pointless. The important part is what is shown to regular users and even more importantly, the visitors. At translation.www.remarpro.com there’s no way to know which is which when you look at strings.

    Even if you do it, you have to wait for some maintainer at translation.www.remarpro.com to approve your translations, and the plugin owner has to remember to include the new tranlations in the next update. If the translation is only 10% complete because all the advertising and help text is left untranslated, the translation will probably not be included anyway.

    So, using the already translated strings from wordpress core whenever available is best practice, and saves everyone work. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel and translate “OK”, “Cancel”, “Recent posts”, etc for each and every plugin.

    The plugin is translated into several major European languages. But we do have less experience catering for situations where the community is translating and at the same time we’re overlapping with some core language strings.

    This is now partly fixed with the latest release. ‘Recent Posts’ is now translated correctly.

    I’m still having the issue with the Author page. So the issue might be a different one than which translation is loaded.

    I tried with several different themes (Astra, TwentyTwentyTwo, Neve).

    My website is in Norwegian Bokm?l (nb_NO), it should say Forfatter instead of Author.

    Update:

    I added a local translation file for your plugin translating just the string ‘Author: %s’. This displays on Author archive pages. So, this string isn’t loaded from wordpress core, it’s still loaded from your plugin.
