Translation File – Not Updating, Not Sure Of Origin

  • ON my WordPress Dashboard on my self hosted WordPress site, in the WordPress Updates area, there is an alert under ‘Translations’ that says “New Translations are available”.

    When I click the “Update Translations” button, it takes me to a new page and the message says “Updating translations for (en_US)…Download failed. Unauthorized”. This is in a logged in state within my WP Dashboard.

    I have no idea when WP enabled Translations. I have no idea what plug in this may be attached to. It is really annoying and would like it to go away or get updated so I stop getting alerts that things need to be updated.

    Does anyone know how to resolve this?

  • WordPress uses language files for any plugins, themes and also for WordPress itself. This is a central function of WordPress that you will see there.

    What is surprising, however, is the error message you see. Which WordPress version are you using? Is there anything unusual under Tools > Site Health?

    There is one plug in that I am using which is throwing a flag in “Site Health” because an XSS item is not updated. However, this Translation item has been nagging me for several months and I have just ignored it until now. So my point is I don’t think this plug in issue is triggering the issue.

    Apart from that, there are no Site Health issues that seem relevant.

    No, this is the language file of WordPress itself. Again the question: which WordPress version are you currently using?

    Following up on this. Any insight onto what is going on with this translation update? Is there somewhere on the doc tree I need to go to remove bad files or something like that?
