    Hi all

After reading several threads here which didn’t bring me closer to the solution I’ve decided to open a new topic to get some help with my issue. First of all – I love Translatepress. It works fine with 99% of my page – except for my blog. As soon as I insert links or for example words in bold the text in my German text they get splitted in different strings. Figured out, I can translate them all together by clicking the arrow button. Did so and saved – in the backend everything looked fine, but after opening my page in another browser (not logged in) the translation (to English) just works for the text parts without links, the ones with links remain in German. When I then go back to the translation page, the translated strings (with links) that I had saved before had disappeared. The ones without links are still there. Any thoughts/tips on that? I’ve already tried to go to settings/advanced and set all the boxes to yes..

Thank you very much in advance! Best, Julia

    Hello Julia,

Thank you for getting in touch with us!

Could you please send screenshots ?

I have tried replicating your issue on my local instance but everything worked as expected.

Hi Dragos, thank you very much for your reply!! Unfortunately I can’t figure out how I can attach a screenshot here (sorry I’m new to this forum) but you can see the result here: https://juliawunsch.ch/en/2020/01/wintercamping-packliste/ The upper part is translated, the lower part (below “THE MOST IMPORTANT BASICS – SLEEPING BAG & PAD”) is not translated. In the backend I saved this translation: “The most important to equipment pieces are, of course, sleeping bag (or bags) and a sleeping pad. Regarding the latter the Exped Synmat HL MW keeps me warm, which is rated down to -18 ° C.” I hit “save translation”, open the link in another browser (not logged in), switch the blog post to English – but the part with the link is still in German. As soon as I go back to the backend and click the arrow to translate that part again, the translation that I had saved before is not there anymore. Is it clearer now?

    Hi again Julia,

Can you try translating the text string by string?(without clicking on the green arrow)

If not , try wrapping the text with the translation-block class.

    Example:

    <div class="translation-block">
       Translate <em>everything</em> <div>inside</div>
    </div>

Let me know if this makes a difference.

    Best wishes,

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. It indeed works bit by bit, but this is kinda unhandy as I can’t split the sentences in English the same way I do in German. But I hope that brings you closer to an idea what the problem might be?

Best regards and again thank you so much in advance!

    Hello Julia,

Have you tried wrapping the content with the translation-block class?

Hi Dragos, yes I did now, sorry thought I should only try it if the aforementioned option (translating the text string by string) wouldn’t work. So I have tried two things now:

    a) Clicking the green arrow and using the snippet to translate the whole block – same result as before, after saving the translation it doesn’t appear on the page and when i go back to the translation it’s not there anymore.
    b) Not clicking the green arrow and using the snippet in the first string, inserting the whole translation into “Translate everything“. This works, the whole text gets translated including the links. But the other strings remain untranslated. Plus my links don’t work anymore this way. I’ve saved it that way, you can check it out now: https://juliawunsch.ch/en/2020/01/wintercamping-packliste/

Any other idea? Best regards, Julia

    Hello Julia,

The link is not working because it seems to be incorrect for the second language.

One approach that you could try is to use our Conditional Shortcode.

It should look something like this:

[trp_language language="en_US"]Content in English [/trp_language]//Change with your desired language

[trp_language language="de_DE"]Content in German [/trp_language]//Change with your desired language

You can use this method to translate the parts with links and only the content in the chosen language will be shown.

Let me know how this goes!

    With the best regards,

Hi Dragos, yes I’ll try this for the link but the main big problem of translating a bunch of strings together with all the included links (see my original post) remains – any solution on this? Best regards, Julia

    Hello,

You can also use the shortcode for this.Wrap your default content with the de_DE shortcode then add the translation after it.

    Something like:

    [trp_language language="de_DE"]
Aufgeblasen wird sie nicht per Mund, damit keine Feuchtigkeit in die Matte gelangt, sondern mit dem ?Schnozzelbag“, der sich leicht mit Luft füllen l?sst, die dann in die Matte gedrückt wird. Da ich jedes Gramm auf dem Rücken hoch trage ist für mich noch ein sch?ner Nebeneffekt, dass der gelbe Aufblassack gleichzeitig auch als Drybag oder mit diesem Adapter als Duschsack umwandeln l?sst. Multifunktionalit?t, I love it!
    [/trp_language]

    [trp_language language="en_US"]

    The translated content.

    [/trp language]

Let me know how this goes.

Hi Dragos, wrapping every part in a shortcode makes it very complicated. I tried anyway but couldn’t make it work. Thanks for your help anyway, I give up at this point.

    Best, Julia
