Translation does not work

Please could you confirm whether you are using a multilingual plugin? Or are you only using the Swedish language?

If you’re using a multilingual plugin, does the same issue happen if you are not using the Kadence Email Designer plugin?

We encountered issues before with some plugins. The reason is that the language being used on succeeding WooCommerce emails is the Site Language, instead of the language used for the WooCommerce order.

Could you also send us your website URL so we can check which plugins you’re using?

I don’t fully understand what you mean by multilingual? Do you mean if we use a plugin like https://wpml.org/ ?

If so, no. Our site is only in Swedish. And we use Loco translate for translating various texts from plugin etc into Swedish.

Hi, I think I’m having the same issue on a multilingual website using WPML.

All of the strings are translated, but many of them still show up in English.

I also cleared the template cache and the issue persists. The site I am working on is https://www.sociocracyforall.org

Woocommerce is 100% translated.

Hi Hannah, I can also confirm the strings from woocommerce are translated on my site. For instance, I can search all strings from all domains that contain subtotal, and they all have translations, but then they don’t get translated in the email generated by Kadence Woocommerce email designer

I have ancountered what may possibly be a similar issue. A possible point is that the kadence mail customizer apparently requires “new transations” for strings that are already translated in woocommerce.

For instance, on creating a new account for a french site I get ‘Click here to set your new password.’ in the mail instead of the french translation that i expect (and that I get in “native” woocommrce email, when deactivating kadence mail customizer plugin).

A possible cause of this issue is that woocommerce templates are duplicated (for good reason) e.g. in in the example i mention plugins/kadence-woocommerce-email-designer/templates/woo/emails/customer-new-account.php b/plugins/kadence-woocommerce-email-designer/templates/woo/emails/customer-new-account.php

Now the bit that is more questionable is the way the translation is requested. Looking into previous file:

esc_html__( ‘Click here to set your new password.’, ‘kadence-woocommerce-email-designer‘ );

The bit in bold is problematic: if you replace it with ‘woocommerce‘, you actually get the expected translation, just like in woocommerce emails. It makes sense, since the string ‘Click here to set your new password.’ is part of the woocommerce translations.

Unfortunately this “fix” would not resit a version bump of kadence stuff, since this file would get overriden on upgrading.

I guess i would make sense not to attempt to duplicate the translations that are already done for woocommerce?

same experience here with wpml. And thanks to @ataypamart i do not feel super stupid anymore. Translating stuff with whatever translation plugin in WP/WC is a mess. Trying to find the right string to translate keeps it complicated. Getting “cheated” by a plugin in this process just makes you angry. Hours of wasted time. So please, Kadence, either inform your customers that Kadence WC Email designer is not usable in multilanguage setups or write A MANUAL how to get it done.

In wpml for example also some of the strings you set in customizer are LOCKED for translation by a wpml xml file. This you can see when searching for them in admin texts. This is a wrong setup.

If english is not set as your main language, trouble starts. Mixed language emails are the result and fe Product tables in the emails are not picked in the language the customer was ordering in.

Thanks for your digging up all this @holle75… I think the design choice of Kadence to duplicate the “translation domain” of the woocommerce email fragments can explain some troubles, though not all of them. WPML is like an early taste of hell.

When I contacted Kadence support about this, they helpfully piloted me through LocoTranslate to solve this. Loco translate gives the ability to manipulate the .po/.mo on the WordPress environment, and I ended up knowing much more about WPML than I initially intended to. This is a silver lining of sorts I guess. I managed to get it to work eventually !

In other words, what Kadence provides *can* be translated and even react properly in ML context, but the issue I see is that it disconnects you from the wider and more active community of WC. When you thought you had it under control, a new circle of hell appears.

Alternatively, viewed from another angle: i did try to publish some missing French translations for kadence woocommerce emails templates, but there seems to be no-one to accept them.

Bit of a shame since the fluid design of their emails is pure gold I think. Well, pure gold may be over the top, but honestly it is way better than woocommerce email templates.

Hi, and yes, multilanguage sites are a hell in WP/WC. Whatever translation Plugin you chose. But most of the problems are solvable if translation Plugin author and plugin author try to make it work. This is not the case with Kadence, unfortunately. I checked and Kadence is defined as 100% wpml compatible on the wpml site. It isn′t.

I′m sick and tired wasting my time following instructions or guesses how to translate this or that plugin. Sometimes it′s just not possible and you have to find another one … following another cycle. Annoying. It′s complicated for the authors, but ignoring problems is not a nice way coping with it.

But there are also good examples. Problems i had with Geodirectories/wpml where solved by the GD-author programmatically in a couple of weeks. Thumbs up!

And yes, Kadence is beautiful, nicely done, helpful! I′m thankful that the free version offer so much. In one language. But i′m sure the translation problems also exist in the paid version.

I hope someone from Kadence will chip in here and try to solve this. When sifting through the answers i think they aren′t aware of the underlying problems.
