Translatepress messes up content around hyperlinks/URLs
-
I already reported this issue a year ago (exactly on 22 January 2021) but it hasn’t been addressed since then. So maybe this time it will be heard and looked into. I also noticed that many other users have reported the exact same issue on the support thread (here , and there).
This is a VERY serious issue because unless the content you need to translate does not have one single hyperlink in it, Translatepress is unusable.
Basically, this is the problem: Translatepress breaks content located around hyperlinks/URLs.
Ex: I have a paragraph in English that needs to be translated into French. In this paragraph in English, there are three hyperlinks/URLs. When I have this paragraph automatically translated into French ALL hyperlinks/URLs within the sentence are separated from the rest of the block (green arrow pointing up). Some words located right and left from the hyperlinked text, are sometimes even completely removed from the translation. This creates translations that are pure nonsense, because each hyperlinked word or group of words are translated on their own (without the rest of the sentence as context). And the rest of the sentence is then translated as a separate whole.
Ex: <link>Fishing in Canada<link> is a great way to spend a <link>holiday<link> there.
Sounds like that when translated to French: Fishing in Canada. Is a great way to spend. Holiday. There. In the example above, if the text “Fishing in Canada” hadn’t had a hyperlink attached, it would have been properly positioned in the text and the whole translated sentence would have made sense. Because it had a link, it was cut from the sentence which stopped at the word “Canada” and resumed as a new sentence after the word “Canada”.
Unless Translatepress caters exclusively to websites with no hyperlinks embedded in content (which I don’t think it does since hyperlinks are not only useful to interlink content on a blog, but also great for SEO), this major issue should be addressed ASAP.
Thanks in advance for addressing this issue once and for all.
