    To replicate:

    1. Create new post with a title.
    2. Check “Translate this post”.
    3. Save draft. Checkbox is now unchecked and no translated post was created. Publishing the post doesn’t work either.

Previously this is how we would create a connected translation draft for a post but it no longer functions. I believe this began happening after June 3 because our admin created a translated post on that date and did not report any issues to me.

I found a temporary workaround for it:

    1. Click the “Change Relationship” button.
    2. Choose “Create new post”.
    3. Click the “Save and reload page” button

This doesn’t copy over the content to the new draft, but it does create a blank draft on the translated site that can then be filled in.

    Additional info:

    • Plugin version is 2.4.3, did a clean install as well (deleted plugin files and reloaded latest version).
    • Deactivating all other plugins and switching the theme to Twenty Sixteen does not fix the issue.
    • Our server is still running PHP version 5.3.3. We hopefully should be upgrading to newer version soon (no details as to which one), it’s just been a lot of hoop-jumping due to my company being a big corporation.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

first of all: sorry for the late reply. This topic must’ve slipped past us. :/

I don’t fully understand the problem (or how you configured MultilingualPress). You mentioned both the Translate this post checkbox and the Change relationship button. So, are you using the Advanced Translator, or the basic one?

In case you want to create draft posts with the original post data (title, content etc.), you can do so by using the Copy source post button in the according Translation meta box(es), right above the TinyMCE.

    Kind regards,
    Thorsten

Hi Thorsten we have the same issue with a bigger client installation at the moment. they are using the same workaround as above.

I created a quick video on a staging site we have for this client. The thing is that the expected behaviour changed, before:

    1. Write in the first language until the post is ready.
    2. When publishing activate the checkboxes to create a translation with a copy of the original post.
    3. Publish or save the post and an exact copy incl. post-thumbnail was created.

In the current version it seems to be that it can’t create the translation of the post, but as you can see in the video below, the issue is that all of a sudden when changing the French relationship, after the reload an English copy seems to appear as wished before.

Let me know how I can further assist you in figuring out what’s going on.

We’re using the basic translator. The problem we’re having is exactly like the video that Silvan posted. (Good to know it’s not just us!) I don’t care so much about it copying content over (since our translations are done outside of WordPress), just the fact that the checkbox doesn’t work anymore so it’s a little more tedious. And we only have two languages, not four like Silvan!

    Hi there,

I opened up an issue over at GitHub, and I already commited a fix to a new branch. It’d be great if anyone of you could try that out and report back. Either here or on GitHub.

    Thanks so far,
    Thorsten

Sorry for the slow response. I copied over the changed code, tested it out, and it worked! I see that the fix is already in the latest version of the plugin so I’ll update to that. Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi there,

you’re welcome. Glad it works for you, too.

In case you have a spare minute or two, we still have space for a (short) review. ??

    Kind regards,
    Thorsten
