I have problems with the right percentage for transition words.
I count 56 words for 97 sentences. This should give around 58% of transition words.
I tested this, localhost. Without any other plugin activated, except Yoast and also online under wordpress. All give the same result. Transition words 1 % or lower. Even if I add transition words, nothing changes in the bullets.

    I have these question(s):
    1) Do I have to set the language somewhere?
Because the blog article is in English, which is not my native language. Should I activate an English version regarding transition words?

    Hello,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Transition words make a text understandable, structured, and readable. Yoast SEO checks if you used enough transition words. Depending on how often you use them, you can get a green, an orange, or a red bullet.

If at least 30% of the sentences in your text contain a transition word, the bullet will be green. You get an orange bullet if you use them in more than 20%, or in less than 30% of your sentences. The bullet will be red if less than 20% of the sentences of your text contain a transition word. That’s less than 1 in 5 sentences.

I understand what transition words are. There are lists of these words everywhere to find online.
The free plugin does not work actually.
I said I counted all transition words. Read the OP for this.
    its 58 % when I count myself.
But the yoast plugin does not calculate that.

I have no other plugins activated, ONLY YOAST. I have the latest version.

What is causing the calculation error?

Where can users find the transition words that Yoast uses?

No its not what I mean Maybellybe.

I would like to know if I have to adjust any language settings in Yoast?

If so, how should I change that?

Okay, I solved the issue of language settings and it now seems to work.

But, I am not completely sure it works well. It now says I use 28,8 % transition words and I myself count more, when using the list you provided in your last reaction here.

Are all the words as important or are some less important or is there a weighed factor perhaps?

    Hi @wesleyj

If you set the Site language to English, we would then expect that the transitions words being calculated would use this list – https://yoast.com/help/transition-words-in-your-language/#english

The transition words aren’t weighted. That particular content check just looks at if a sentence is using a transition word from the list, and then calculates it against the total number of sentences in the content. So if you’ve used 3 sentences with transition words, and you have a total of 10 sentences, you’ve used it in 30% of the content.

There should also be an ‘eye highlight’ functionality that should highlight in purple all of the sentences that have transition words in them, so you can try and use this as well when counting it against the total number of sentences.
