• Hi,
When you split up a longer video into different videoclips, 1 per story page, you get to see a nasty flicker/flash/shimmering when you let the Web Story play automatically from the first story page to the last story page in a browser on a MOBILE PHONE.

Especially when you watch the Web Story for the first time, because then the videoclips aren’t cached by the browser yet. So make sure you watch closely the first time on your SMARTPHONE. Please do a screen recording immediately the first time when watching the story on your phone.

We took a closer look at what is shown during the transition by screen recording the Web Story ourselves:
    1. an image is shown of the videoclip on the previous page
    2. a css background is shown

What can we do to remove this ugly issue?

We already played with the html code, by removing the css background. Also by removing the poster images, and in that case he takes an image of the videoclip on the first page. Is looks like it is an issue with the AMP page itself? Can you guys fix this because it really impacts our business.

Thank you very much for taking a closer look and really investigating what is going on here.

  • Hiya @denjones , we’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue with the transitions between story pages and will be happy to investigate. I can see the issue you’ve described when viewing the story on a mobile device. Just so I can gather as much information as possible, can you please share some details?

First, Are your trimming the videos into clips using the stories editor “trim video” functionality then inserting the video? Or did you upload video clips that were already trimmed?

Next, do you have a page advancement set to auto or manual on the document panel?

    1. No, we trimmed the videoclips ourselves with our own software.
    2. Page advancement is set to “Auto”.

@denjones I have opened a GitHub issue to check if there is anything we can do to improve this. Thanks for raising it. Could you also share what you used to trim the video?

I saw that the developer said it looks pretty smooth for him. But it isn’t! So nobody is giving this enough attention and priority. But is really is a bad user experience. You even see it when you open the developer tools in your browser on your desktop and look at the Web Story in the Mobile simulator. It immediately shows the choppy transition that shows an image of one of the previous pages for a millisecond. But oh boy, this makes the quality of the Web Story so user unfriendly.
Can you please make sure to address this problem again and make sure everyone understands the urgency of it?

    Thank you very much!
