• i followed MacZealots.com how-to guide for installing WordPress in Tiger and it works perfectly. but then i realized i would need a domain name and server space (other than my computer’s hard drive)… so how to do transfer blog/site to the server? is it a matter of just dragging the WP folder over to the new server?

  • You can move the folder with files, yes, but it’s the database that’s tricker.

    restore it first
    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/restore/
then change the siteurl and home values
    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

That will get it working on a site.

thanks for your qwik reply! those two links seem over my head, tho (for instance, i’m not sure what application is being referenced in the screen shots on those pages).

what if i haven’t made any actual posts? i’ve only made 4 draft posts to my blog… nothing that can’t be deleted and done over once the transfer is done. or will i lose all my categories and settings that i’ve made thus far?

    From the second tutorial:
“This was written using phpMyAdmin 2.5.3 and 2.5.7 pl1.”

    The first uses the same.

If you do not follow the two tutorials listed above, you will lose all your categories and settings that you’ve made thus far.

If you are not backing up your database then your fresh install on a server will be as a new one: all the settings, categories etc. are stored in the database.
Transferring (moving) just the files from your computer doesn’t save anything you have done with your WP install.
