• Hi,
I recently transferred a site from wordpress.com to a .org version. In transferring the content, using the export / import XML – all of the paragraph breaks have disappeared from the Posts and Pages.

This seems to be a common problem. Is there a fix? Or am I doomed to reformat 100+ posts that I need to transfer..?

    Thanks, David

    The new site: https://refugemediaproject.org/blog/

The wordpress.com site transferred from: https://blog.refugemediaproject.org/

    Thank You, David

I can see <p></p> tags in the source markup of your new site.

How do I fix this without going through each post?

    Thanks, David

You don’t need to fix anything! The p tags are all there.

But the paragraph spacing is wrong on the new site- the posts and pages are not spaced as they were originally written.
    This is the new site:
    https://refugemediaproject.org/blog/

This is the original site the posts were written on:
    https://blog.refugemediaproject.org/

Is there a way to fix this without reworking each post individually..?

    Thanks Esmi

Yes – edit your theme’s CSS.

What am I editing? This is a new problem for me..

Also I am using a child theme if it makes a difference.

    Thanks Esmi

You will need to amend your theme’s stylesheet(s). But, as this is a commercial theme, we can’t really help. You need to seek support from the theme’s vendors: https://thethemefoundry.com/forums/

I already asked about this on the Theme’s forum – they didn’t know how to resolve this and suggested I check here..?

Actually, what they said is that a lot of the p tags are NOT present on the new site.. so Perhaps its an issue with the export / import (seems to be common problem.)

Either way, I just need to fix this and greatly appreciate any help..

    Thanks, David

The old site is hosted on wordpress.com, correct? If so, you need to understand that the themes hosted on wordpress.com are often customised versions of their freely available counterparts. The export tool can only pull out what is present in the database. It can’t replicate any added display functionality that the wp.com theme may have.

I see what you mean. Yes, the wordpress.com was on one of their themes..

Honestly- I don’t care where it comes from, I just need some help in fixing this.. before I have to reformat over 100+ posts.. sigh..

    Thanks Esmi

From what I can see, the posts weren’t fully formatted in the Editor on wordpress.com. Have you examined the export file itself?

I just looked over the export file in dreamweaver..

It looks like they are there in some but not in others. I just spoke with the person who wrote the posts originally and I’m thinking this might be because he cut and pasted the posts from Word and then probably adjusted things as needed in the editor.. does that make sense?

Given that, I’m assuming my only option is to fix them manually..?

    Thanks so much Esmi
