I started with a wordpress.com website, bought hosting space on HostGator and moved the domain ownership to that new hosting space. I believe I created a www.remarpro.com website but when I go to my website link I’m back on the wordpress.com with the same design and all so there’s no doubt it’s still .com and not .org…

What can I do to get rid of the .com and have a simple, self-hosted, .org website?

  • If your domain URL includes wordpress.com, you cannot point it away from the wordpress.com servers. To have a self-hosted site, you need a purchased domain name to send to its servers. If you have already purchased a domain name and have been using it at wordpress.com, you need to change its nameservers to those of your new host and then possibly wait a few hours for the new DNS to propagate. In the end, however, any wordpress.com URL will still always-and-only land at the wordpress.com servers and www.remarpro.com will never be part of anyone’s URL for a purchased domain.

Can you tell me where/how I should change the nameservers and what my new host credentials are going to look like?

It has been quite a while since I have used a wordpress.com Dashboard and I do not recall details, but one of more of these links should get you there where you can change the nameservers for a registered domain:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=wordpress.com+nameservers

Also, you do not have to change Registrars in order to change nameservers.

Your new host would/should have given you the login credentials for your server account, and then your WordPress login there will be whatever you make it during the WordPress installation.
