• Am transferring a local WordPress site to a client’s Dotster Windows host server. For me, it’s a slow-moving nightmare as I try to figure out how to solve problems. Dotster support is not helpful, IMO.

I have the site installed, but a wp-cycle plugin is not functioning and I’m not able to upload photos. I’ve researched and found other folks have had similar issues, and read info about changing permissions but that doesn’t seem to apply to a Windows host environment. I can’t seem to change permissions with my FTP client, nor does there seem to be a function in Dotster’s C-panel.

I’m on a Mac and use Cyberduck for FTP.

Thanks so much for any help.

Using Cyberduck/OS X doesn’t usually matter. Try the file manager in Cpanel; that might work better for permissions for Windows.

Thanks songdogtech. I did find the function in the cpanel after all and changed permissions for .htaccess and uploads folder so photos were loading in fine into my wp-cycle plugin.

Having trouble updating next-gen plugin–the dashboard just hangs. Wondering if that’s a permissions issue…

Some hosts are restrictive on the permissions and URL access that WP needs to do auto-updates. No way around it.
