Hi, how are you doing? I hope you’re doing well!

First of all thanks for Duplicator. I’ve used it to create a test site where I completely changed the look of my ten year old blog. Now, that the changes are almost finished, I’d like to transfer it back to the original URl. But I’m not really sure how to do that.

The original url for the website is – https://www.festinhabobanoape.com

And the test site almost ready is – https://www.areadetestes.festinhabobanoape.com/wp

Can I follow the same steps with the test site that I did to duplicate the original website in the first moment to now bring it back home? I mean, after creating and downloading the zip files, should I upload them inside /festinhabobanoape.com and delete everything else inside it? And about the database? Do I need to create a new one? Or do I use the an old one that’s already there?

I did find this article below that I thought it might be useful for me but I’m not sure it is:

I’d be very grateful if you help me out over here…

    Thanks,

    Marlos

  • Hey @marlosb,

Yes, the link you provided should help. Based on your overview you should be able to follow those proceeders. It is recommended to start with a new database as well. If your web-site is a business and you can not afford to have any downtime or don’t want to take the risk then you can typically get a professional who should be able to do it in a few hours max. If you do run into issues we can help through our ticket system. However the response times can vary and typically we don’t always get to tickets right away.

    Hope that helps~

Hi Cory, thanks for your prompt reply. I did it once, so I’ll try to do it again. I’ll do a back-up of everything before proceeding though, just in case. And, thanks, I’ll create a new database just as you said. I was not sure if I could create a new database for a URL that already has one. When I created the test URL address, as it was a new URL, I created the new database without thinking twice.

If I have any issue I’ll look for your ticket system,

    Thanks again,

    Marlos

    Thanks for the update!

Man, I did it by myself and everything is working perfectly.

My main doubt, in case someone stops by here in the future was if I had to delete all the old files inside my WordPress URL Folder or not. So I did a copy of everything before and decided to take the risk. The folder was completely empty (the site was down for about 13 minutes while I did that!) when I uploaded both installer.php and the package zipped file.

Then I just followed the step by step and it was done.

Really, no words to thank you for that plugin. It was a great experience!

    Thanks again,

    Marlos

I am just a Duplicator user sharing my routine that may be helpful to you in the future:

My practice is to upload/ftp everything first, then delete existing WP files. Within seconds after deleting, I can then run the installer.php file and replace the site. Over time and with most sites I update, the downtime is most likely less than a minute.

    Just FYI.

    Thanks for the feedback @johnwp413!
