• Hello,

I’ve already found instructions on how to import and export posts from one self-hosted WP blog to another self-hosted WP blog.

My question pertains to… Is it possible to keep the page rank? I have many product review posts with PR and would hate to lose the PR when importing those posts to a new blog.

If this is possible, what are the steps?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Philip

If you use a 301 Redirect (Permanent), you keep most of the ranking. If you are not sure how to set that up, talk to your host or follow the instructions provided by Google here:

Now, how much do you lose? I’ll let Matt Cutts, head of the Webspam team at Google, and search quality team member on search engine optimization issues, explain that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Filv4pP-1nw

Thanks for responding. I already know how to do a 301 redirect from one URL to another but never did this for two separate sites that redirect some (not all) posts from one site to my new site and keep as much PR on each posts as possible.

That means all I have to do is go to my .htaccess file and redirect https://MyOldSite.com/product-review1 to https://MyNewSite.com/product-review1 like this…

    301 Redirect /product-review1 https://MyNewSite.com/product-review1

    Question:

What should I do with the content (old product reviews) that has PR on the old site that I want to redirect to my new site?

From my understanding so far, I should leave the content for each old post intact (on the old site) and rewrite the content for each post to add to my new site. Of course, this means I have a lot of rewriting to do.

It also appears that I should use the rel=”canonical” with each 301 redirect and still keep the PR. Is that correct?
