Hi, I’ve noticed that there’s an eye icon when in order editing mode called “Transaction Data / Actions”. When pressing a modal window appears and there’s an option to Capture or Void – also after the order has been completed and therefore should automatically be captured? No need to do something manually?

    What am I missing here…

    Thx.

    Hi @jenzgaard,

If you have set the gateway to Authorize the payment, then the capture does not happen during the checkout process, regardless of the order’s status.

That is because the purpose of authorizing a payment is to capture it later. If you want it captured immediately, just enable the Capture setting in the gateway. That will ensure it’s captured during the checkout process.

    Kind Regards,

Hi, I’ve set the gateway to Authorize because it’s not legal (in the EU) to capture prior to dispatch / during the customers checkout proces.

However I thought that when you click on completing the order (when ready to send the order) in WooCommerce it will then automatically Capture – doesn’t it? If not, can it be setup to this automatically?

When looking back on most of our orders they are in fact captured by just completing the order but some are not. This is why I asked about the eye-icon. So it seems it’s not consistent?

    I’ve looked here: https://docs.paymentplugins.com/wc-stripe/config/#/admins?id=capture-an-order

It says, “Order status is set to completed – plugin attempts to capture the charge.”
This is actually what I presumed your plugin does. However, why does it sometimes fail?

And does this mean, that I have to enter order edit mode and see if Capture has been successfull? And then click the eye-icon to manually Capture.

I really hope I’ve missed something here otherwise it’s not reliable and would cost us many hours of double checking.

Hi, I’ve set the gateway to Authorize because it’s not legal (in the EU) to capture prior to dispatch / during the customers checkout proces.

I’ve never heard of that before. Can you share some documentation where it shows that’s a rule? I’d be interested to read it.

When the order’s status is set to complete, the payment is automatically captured. It’s all automated so there’s no need for manual intervention.

However, why does it sometimes fail?

I don’t know, you would need to provide the order notes for one of the failed capture attempts. Anytime there is a failure, the reason is written to the order notes so you can find the reason there.

And does this mean, that I have to enter order edit mode and see if Capture has been successfull?

No, it’s an automated process when the order’s status is set to complete. You should review why some captures fail occasionally and provide us that info so we can comment.

Well, got interesting. In short, in Scandinavia it’s exptected that you don’t withdraw prior to shipment (rules set by Ombudsmanden).
There are, to my surprise, no common EU regulations on this.
Credit card companies however do apparently have rules: https://www.answers.com/Q/Is_it_legal_to_charge_a_credit_card_before_shipping_the_product

Order notes for ex 1: https://www.screencast.com/t/0m35PQLmp
Just nothing happens when status = Completed.

Order notes for ex 2: https://www.screencast.com/t/9HywNQCq4
I Captured this nov 22 manually via the eye-icon since the plugin apparently did nothing after order was Completed on nov 16 (see green dates)?

    Hi @jenzgaard

We’ll run some tests using the bulk edit feature for status and see if that’s perhaps the reason the authorization wasn’t captured.

If you change the status for an individual order it will capture it. So you don’t need to click the icon on the order details page, just change the status to completed.

    Kind regards

Okay, so as I understand you, the bulk feature may not be flawless. You’ll have to go into each order and click ‘Complete’.

In that respect, it would be great to have an extra column in the order list which contains capture status – quite important to be 100% of getting the payment.

Do you perhaps have a suggestion to make a SQL query direct on the database for the same purpose?

    thx.
