• I have purchased a new domain for my blog and made it the primary one (thailandredcat.com, before it was redcat-travel.com it’s still active for another 2 months). I have changed the WordPress URL and Site Address in wordpress general settings and resubmitted the sitemap with the new URL. That’s all I have done.

This was one month ago and since then the traffic is now totally down, from more than 1,000 pageviews a day to now not even 200.

If I google search “thailand redcat” not even one of my pages shows up. The sitemap however has successfully been submitted:
    https://thailandredcat.com/sitemap.xml

Do you know what could be the reason for this and how can I solve the problem and get the search results and eventually traffic back to normal again?

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Cheers!

  • That’s quite a big drop after a few weeks of increased traffic. It will be interesting to see how it goes after setting-up the the domain redirect.

No change in traffic so far. I just remember one thing: About the same time that I done the domain transfer I have installed a “Mobile Theme Switcher” plugin. Do you think such a plugin might be causing a decline in traffic? I will turn it off now and see if it has any impact.

Usually a mobile theme changer doesn’t make a difference with regards to SEO, but it’s hard to know for sure. If you want to be mobile friendly, you should consider changing the theme to a responsive one. There are a few free options and plenty of premium themes too.

Changing themes is simple, but making your site look like you want it to might take time.

I think you should give this a few weeks, possibly even a couple of months. You can guarantee a return to the same amount of traffic after such a big more. Keep working on your new site and promote it through social media and whatever methods you were using before.

Alright, thanks again for the tips. I’ll keep the Switcher Plugin turned off a week or two and if it doesn’t make any change I turn it on again and just be patient while continue working on the site.

It seems the traffic has recovered! After having had daily page views of less than 200 on average for the past 8 weeks, since 4 days it jumped back to more than 1,000. Seems the pages are ranking the same like before. Hope it stays like that ??

Excellent news! I hope it stays that way too ??
