• We have an issue tracking users that clicked on Youtube ads. We created a standard campaign URL, but can’t see any data. This might be correct, if those users didn’t purchase anything. On the other hand, this data might be added to the google_cpc group or not tracked at all. Can we somehow troubleshoot this issue?

This is the URL we use:

    https://www.agoshop.de/diamant-express?utm_source=web_promo&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=yt_promo

We tested it in an email, and it worked just fine.

    Thank you.

  • Hi @cutu234

This might be correct, if those users didn’t purchase anything.

This is correct. The Order Attribution reports only results for traffic that resulted in a purchase – using the last-click attribution model. So why people may be clicking on a Youtube ad – they may not be purchasing on your site as a result and/or the Youtube ad might not be the ‘last’ thing they clicked before they came to your site to make a purchase.

Based on the URL you shared:

    https://www.agoshop.de/diamant-express?utm_source=web_promo&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=yt_promo

I’d also recommend adjusting your utm structure to:

    • utm_medium=[paid/cpc/cpv/cpa/ppc/retargeting] – depending on what ad type it is
    • utm_source=youtube
    • utm_campaign=[Name of your campaign]
    • utm_term=[Name of your ad group]
    • utm_content=[Name of your ad]

Thank you very much. Do yo have any first-hand experiences with Youtube ads? The problem is that we don’t know where and when the link (created by Youtube) is shown. So, we can’t really test it. We know that hundreds of users HAVE actually clicked the link (Youtube charges for it), but we can’t say what they really did after that.

    Hi @cutu234,

I understand how crucial data is for managing your ads. However, to clarify, the Google for WooCommerce plugin is primarily used to connect your store to Google Merchant and does not handle ad tracking or have any affiliation with how your ads are run or tracked on YouTube or Google.

If you have questions regarding ad tracking, I recommend reaching out to Google directly. Additionally, you can monitor site activity using Google Analytics, while WooCommerce Analytics is limited to tracking and recording sales.

I know how to track links. This is not about Google ad tracking. It’s about your one and only plugin that can fortunately track campaigns. My simple question was: Is the plugin able to track standard campaigns, if they were first run through the Youtube click counter URL? This is not something that Google could answer, since the tracking is the plugin’s job. It might be, on the other hand, that the plugin counts these links as google_ cpc. I have no way of knowing that. Please, escalate the question to the dev team. I’m sure they know how the plugin handles these URLs.

    Thank you.

    Hi @cutu234,

I completely understand what you’re referring to. To clarify, WooCommerce Analytics only tracks successful orders and does not map the journey of visitors on your site. As explained in the documentation here, the recorded data is categorized into Orders by Channel, Orders by Source, etc.

For YouTube, the orders should be categorized under Orders by Source, which still falls under Google as a source. If you’re looking for campaign-specific data, you’ll find it under the Campaign tab.

To track more detailed visitor data beyond just completed orders, I recommend integrating Google Analytics 4 with your site. GA4 uses UTM tags to track every visitor, allowing you to analyze traffic sources and user acquisition—even for users who didn’t complete a purchase.

If you’d prefer to speak with support directly, you can create a ticket via WooCommerce.com.
