• Hi,
Someone did a trackback to a post in my newly installed WP2.0, but i don’t get any notification of this. I have a custom blog address format, and followed the instructions of what to put in the .htaccess. Everything else seems to work fine. Is there any way i can test tracking back to my own blog easily ?

  • who do you use makemead? I’m use https://www.bluehost.com. If what you’re saying is true, then this is the very first problem I’ve ever had regarding my host.
And if it is a host server-side problem, where do we begin to figure out what is going on?
I’ll send in a ticket to bluehost and see if they have any ubergeeks that could look into it.

I use site5.com I’ve never had a problem with my host before either. I just don’t know. ??

I too use bluehost so if they give you a solution please post it here. I am sure there are many of us who could benefit.
    Thanks

BigDog, I just submitted my ticket to them. May you should do the same? Two heads are better than one! ?? On your cpanel, click help. You have to register to submit a ticket, so you might have to do that.

They seem to have bogged down the last week or so due to the holidays, so it may be a while before they get to it. They’re usually very quick about it.
I’ve gotta go out of town for a few hours. If they haven’t replied by the time I get back, I will telephone them.

    Done!

What is supposed to happen on the trac page? LOL.

For what it’s worth, I was able to send TrackBacks with WP 1.5, but haven’t been able to with WP 2.0

Can receive them just fine, but not send them. Using Dreamhost.

I received this reply from my host company:

The servers do block outgoing icmp connections to prevent malicious scripts and users from running ping floods from the servers.

Could that have something to do with the problem?

I’m having this trouble too.. I took a dive into the db. It seems like the pings are just stuck there.

I see a ping from earlier today (pre-upgrade to wp2) in wp_posts.pinged, and later a test ping from 2 hours ago right after I upgraded in wp_posts.to_ping. (image: https://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4679/screenshot14ja.jpg)

I also cannot receive pings I’ve been testing on tamba2.

What is supposed to happen on the trac page? LOL.
I think it means that someone from the development team or whoever will look into to and issue a fix.

I never received a trackback from tamba’s test site either. And it’s source page says it’s 2.0. Maybe the test site cannot send trackbacks, either?

I still haven’t heard from my host. I’m gonna call them later.

    I don’t know makemead. What’s an icmp connection…?

icmp connection is basically a ping

Short for Internet Control Message Protocol, an extension to the Internet Protocol (IP) defined by RFC 792. ICMP supports packets containing error, control, and informational messages. The PING command, for example, uses ICMP to test an Internet connection.

I don’t know if trackbacks use ICMP but if they do that would explain why I can not send them.

BTW, tonight’s nightly build does not solve the issue but is otherwise stable.

stephenw, I looked into my db, too. My pinged and to_ping fields are empty since the upgrade.
    hmmm…

If you trackbacked something the to_ping should be empty, right? It clears after the ping goes out.

Well, some of mine were empty and some of them weren’t.
    weird.. The plot thickens..

You probably didn’t add a trackback to the empty ones.
