• Hi,
Someone did a trackback to a post in my newly installed WP2.0, but i don’t get any notification of this. I have a custom blog address format, and followed the instructions of what to put in the .htaccess. Everything else seems to work fine. Is there any way i can test tracking back to my own blog easily ?

  • citeewurkor, no. I can not get trackbacks to work along with pingbacks and when sending multiple trackbacks only one gets sent.

It seems to work better if you leave execute_all_pings(); where it is and just uncomment it. It seems that the trackbacks all go out but only one ping back per post goes out. *sigh*

I agree that uncommenting the command in the original file only allows one trackback to go out though all of them show as having been sent.

Okay, so, un-commenting execute_all_pings, and disabling trackbacks will work (assuming pingback links are added to the post field)?

I don’t mind manually sending trackback pings via Haloscan, but if I can get WP2.0 to do it for me instead, all the better.

(Is the link trackback functionality all that useful, anyway? As long as the pings are working, I’ll be happy…)

To those of us tht use trackbacks, yes, they are necessary.

hmm.. well, I haven’t had to try multiple trackbacks yet. I’ve also always had the sending of pingbacks disabled, because sometimes I will reference someone’s post multiple times and don’t want to ping it a million times.

I’ll try the commenting out method, too.

Not sure if my question was terribly clear. ??

    1) If I *uncheck* the Options/Discussion “Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)”

    2) And then *uncomment* “execute_all_pings” function…

    3) And then, in individual posts, manually enter trackback ping links in each post, under “Trackbacks/Send Trackbacks to:”

Will that work? Will those trackbacks send?

You tell us. Try it and see. ??

Okay, I’ll try it on my next post, and let you know the results!

Okay, attempted to ping in an existing post, with a “save”. Will let you know if the trackback shows up.

Tomorrow morning, I’ll try to ping with a new post, with a “publish”.

Update: doesn’t appear that the trackback didn’t work on saving an already published post.

Er, note to self: don’t attempt to post while distracted… last post should have read: “Update: doesn’t appear that the trackback worked on saving an already published post.”

    Second update:

Good news! I successfully trackback-pinged on a newly published post, using this method (at least, with a single trackback).

I’ll report back when I’ve posted with multiple trackbacks, to see if it works for those, as well.

    Keep us posted! ??

Same problem here. Tried what you said about decommenting the line, changing the setting and manually sending the trackback. No luck though. Unfortunately I cannot downgrade to wp1.5 since I am very actively using the categories as tags, and I need an rss for each tag.
