    I’ve attempted to post a trackback to a blog that I linked to in my post. It says the trackback link is https://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/1911251.
    When I click that link I get this.

    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″ ?>
    – <response>
    <error>1</error>
    <message>Need a Source URL (url).</message>
    </response>

    I tried another typepad trackback and got a similar message. Am I doing something wrong, and if so, what? Thanks.

  • You don’t click the trackback, what you do is copy that link into the corresponding box when posting your message. It’s right underneath the main post text box, clearly labeled.

    Thanks ceo, I see a box for comments but nothing about trackbacks. The link is: https://harryjoiner.typepad.com/proven_ways/2005/03/using_swot_as_a.html

    What am I missing?

    Podz, I can’t for the life of me figure out what it is I’m supposed to do on your TestsTrack link. I know it can’t be that complicated.

    A trackback is a way of posting a comment from your blog to another’s. So you ‘trackback’ when posting on your own blog, typically on the topic the other blog’s post you want to trackback to is actually discussing.

    In other words, to use a trackback link, you add it into the “TrackBack a URI” field when creating/editing a post on your blog. On podz’s test site, you can send a trackback to one of the posts located there (from your blog), or you can log in with the test account and send a trackback to a post on your blog.

    Got it. Posted and it shows up. Thanks. The thing I didn’t understand was that in my post I could indicated a trackback uri.

    Another question: I know that trackbacks are also used when you post something you think would be of interest to another blogger, but may not be in response to a specific post of their’s. In that case, what link do you insert in “Send trackbacks to” or how do you handle that? Thanks.

    In that case I send them an email…

    Did anyone ever figure out what the TrackBack problem is? Is there a place where I can download the trackback.php file that has the corrections in it? I am having one hell of a time trying to fix this thing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    “I know that trackbacks are also used when you post something you think would be of interest to another blogger, but may not be in response to a specific post of their’s.”

    WRONG – you post a trackback to another persons blog post that is related to yours AND you have also noted on your blog.

    In other words – in your blog entry you mention and link to the permalink of another persons blog entry. ALSO you send a trackback via the TB URL of that person blog entry to let him/het know your have written something about his/her entry.

    It’s a part of blog courtesy.
