    When I am in the iThemes Security Logs and click on an IP that was logged as a 404 error, I always get an error message from StableHost that the website is unavailble. I have tried going to traceip.net directly and get the same error. Yet if I use Who.is, I can find info about the various 404 IP addresses in iThemes Security Logs.

    Unless traceip.net is going to become available soon, it looks like it is time to find another service or just implement your own.

    Please respond iThemes!

    Hi,

    Thanks for reporting this.

    We’re aware that tracip.net is down for some reason. We’ll adding a new service for this very soon.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Lookup IP address on the banned users tab uses this URL:

    https://ip-lookup.net/domain-lookup.php

    But the click on the host IP of the log page uses traceip.net

    What strikes me as much more serious is that you cannot get to the forums on the ithemes security without FIRST buying a product from them.

    The lack of the IP lookup on the log page will be okay; but it is now time to un-integrate all the used iThemes features and find a better product… one sold, or given away free, by a company that isn’t intent from the get-go in screwing you.

    @debrucer

    I get the impression that the link to ip-lookup.net/domain-lookup.php in the Banned Users section is intended to be used to lookup the IP address belonging to a domain. Which is a bit different.
    That said it does look like the same site could also be used to lookup v4 or v6 IP addresses.

    Perhaps an indication of the quality of iThemes support is that there is a very simple workaround to the issue as reported in this topic but iThemes is not providing it in their response.

    Simply add a rewriterule to the .htaccess file which will redirect any traceip.net request to a substitute. Helps us out temporarily while it gives iThemes the time necessary to work out a solution.

    Something iThemes is very good at though is making promises ??

    A far simpler solution would be to re-word the email and change the URL from trace-ip to one that works.

    @russellcunning

    Not sure whether you are reacting to my post but email ?
    No one mentioned anything about an email in this topic …
    Also there is a difference between a solution and a workaround ??

    Hi Dwinden,

    I was commenting on the topic in general, rather than reacting to your post as such, so sorry if I gave you the wrong impression ?? I see the link to https://ip-lookup.net/domain-lookup.php in the email notifying me that an IP has been locked out. The IP that is locked out is a hyperlink to https://ip-lookup.net/domain-lookup.php

    My suggestion was for i-Themes to fix their email rather than for users. Your workaround is spot on – butwouldn’t be necessary if the email was accurate!

    Cheers,
    Russell

    @russellcunning

    Ah I see. Thanks for the clarification.

    Just realised my ‘workaround’ won’t actually work, so forget about that post.

    No need for a workaround anyway as it seems traceip.net is working again !

    Hi Dwnden – yes, it’s amazing how well hosting works once you pay the bill!

    My guess is that it went over bandwidth and got restricted – it has happened to me a couple of times.

    While hosting companies allow their automated systems to cut you off very quickly, they seem to be much slower to re-activate the account once you’ve paid. You can measure how quickly they de-activate an account in milliseconds, but to get it re-activated can be measured in days!

    Cheers,
    Russ
