Since a few hours ago, Defender is blocking me and others from all sites on a multisite install. Frontend and backend.

Initially, I found the IPs in the table with PHPMyAdmin and removed them but they were still blocked. I then deleted all _defender tables from the database. Still blocked.

I finally deleted the plugin folder and I have access.

    I re-installed and activated – blocked.
I have added the functions found elsewhere to mu=plugins – no difference.

This is clearly not cache, as as soon as I disable the plugin it stops.
So what on Earth is going on with your plugin???

Switching to Wordfence for now as this is totally unacceptable. I was trying to switch to WPMU for most things, and Defender, but it’s unusable.

I’ve now added the code to whitelist my IP to functions.php and it’s working finally. I’ve also tried a proxy, and that appears to be working.

BUT the question remains – what is going on with your plugin to block me like this? Even whilst removing the IP from the database tables? It is not cache.

Can you please give a detailed explanation, not just ‘try this, try that’. If this happens to customers, and viewers of their websites, I have no way to easily whitelist them so I need to know exactly what your plugin is doing that other security plugins are not.

    Thank you

    Hi @kaepora

Sorry to hear you are having this problem.

Initially, I found the IPs in the table with PHPMyAdmin and removed them but they were still blocked. I then deleted all _defender tables from the database. Still blocked.

If the server has any object cache, it is necessary to flush any object cache after modifying the database, we do have some other reports like WP Fastest cache plugin that causes the lockout page as the plugin is caching the page, but I do see you said the lockout is gone as soon you disable the plugin.

I’m afraid to give you the concrete information we need to troubleshoot the issue.

I would suggest trying to replicate the problem again, and then if possible to check the WP_PREFIX_defender_lockout_log table and check the logs for the reason you got locked out in the first moment?
