The total_shares are activated in each page via a shortcode [Sassy_Social_Share align=”center” total_shares=”ON”].

However, even though the cache interval is set to 10 mins, it really does not have any affect. The Facebook-application gets pretty soon application rate limited (100%), and it stays there as long as shares are activated via the shortcode.

The “overloaded Fb-application” results to showing 0 total shares.

This problem is not new,has been there since we took last autumn the Sassy into use.

Any idea, why the caching does not have any impact, if each post page has the shortcode mentioned above?

I enabled the total shares about an hour ago as described above, and at the time of writing this, the Fb application rate limit is rising all the time. About in an hour it will reach 100%, and after that, the counter will be shown as 0, as Fb does not respond anymore to API calls.

Seems that the longer interval (2 hours) helped.

Facebook App request limit might reach it’s limit because of the high traffic at your website, especially when share counts cache refresh time is too low and Facebook API requests are too frequent. There really isn’t any solution for this at the moment other than setting a higher share count cache refresh time to make API requests less frequent.
We will see if there is anything that could be done to improve this.
