Total number of pages/photos possible?

  • Hello everyone,

    I’m currently looking to transfer a number of websites from a traditional web-editor style program to WordPress. (I won’t name the actual prog, it’s been on the go for years as a html generator and has served me well, but it’s getting left behind, even though a ‘major’ new version has just been released).

    I’m not new to computers/web/html etc, but I am new to WordPress.
    Some of my existing sites run to 300-400 pages (not posts) and the galleries up to 1000 photos in various albums.

    I’m interested in moving these to a responsive theme, as I’ve noticed a higher percentage of visitors are now using iPhones/iPads and other tablets as well as conventional pc’s. My existing software cannot accomodate this. One existing site is Trimdontimes.co.uk.
    Can WordPress coupled with NexGen galleries cope easily with these numbers? Or has anyone any suggestions for other galleries.

    All opinions gratefully accepted ??

  • Yes, WP can accommodate those numbers. Your the scaling/loading concerns are valid but should be directed to your host provider. Additionally, since you have many pics, I would ensure each picture is web optimized.

    Thanks for your reply.
    I’ve no concerns with server load or database size, and my pics are already sized and optimised.
    It was simply the WordPress platform I was wondering about – I know it’s a popular blogging platform, and I’ve seen it used on several other sites for serving ‘static’ pages, but I couldn’t find any mention on www.remarpro.com or forums about maximum page numbers etc.

    As you will understand, I don’t want to transfer a couple of hundred pages and then find I’ve hit a limit ??

    WordPress does not impose any practical limits on the number of Pages and/or Posts in your site.

    Thanks esmi and Gabe, that gives me more confidence to continue.
    As I’ve got to copy/paste content page by page it wasn’t a task I wanted to take lightly, but the flexibilty of WordPress with its responsive themes and widgets appears to make it the best option long-term.
    (No more having to build secondary mobile-specific sites)

    No doubt I’ll be back with more questions if I get stuck on something !!
