• I upgraded my SUSE server to a version that has php7 and find that:
    1. I cannot get the site to show anything other than a blank page and a 500 error.
    2. Therefore I can not deactivate plugins.
    3. I also can not activate phpMyAdmin since it also produces a blank page and a 500 error.
This was running the latest version of WordPress before 5.0, using php 5.4. No problems.

    What should I do now?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Most probably your WordPress installation is not compatible with your PHP version.

can you access your files in your webhosting account?
if yes, then you can deactivate your plugins by renaming the plugins folder.
a chat with your webhosting support team would be helpful too if you are having trouble accessing phpmyadmin.
do you have a recent backup copy of your database and files?

    Thanks, Lisa,

The whole site is on a server 6 feet from my desk.
“you can deactivate your plugins by renaming the plugins folder.” Good plan. I’ll try it after I’m sure the other components are together.

Since I am also the webhosting support team I assume that my version of phpMyAdmin works only with php 5.4, hence is also allergic to php 7. I do have current backups of the database(s) and a fairly recent backup of the files, both local and online. Will a new version of phpMyAdmin recognize the databases or will I have to start over with them — I have several other databases unrelated to WordPress?
