top posts by category

I’m using the tpbct-12 plugin on wordpress 2.6 & 2.61 sites but it seems buggy, some category names are not shown and some posts appear under wrong category. As this is such a useful concept to show the most popular posts on a single page, is there any fix for this, or any other plugin that does this but properly?
