First off, I’m going to apologize for not knowing the correct lingo. This is a new world to me within the last few months.

Here’s my issue, for some odd reason my website is loading small images and titles of my posts at the very top of my page (a bar of posts). It doesn’t appear until you move down the page and then it pops in. I’ve spent hours trying to figure this out over the last two days.

I suspect that this bar of posts is slowing my loading time. But I could be wrong?

At either rate. I find it annoying.

I’m using the theme GeneratePress (basic version). My server is BlueHost.

I’d very much appreciate some guidance or help.

    Thank you!
    Terri

  • Hello @tww2021

I could not reproduce the loading of small images and titles of posts as you described. It is happening for a specific browser or device, and do you have a screenshot of this?

If you would like to improve loading time, you could use Page Speed Insights or GTMetrix to check your loading time for desktop and mobile devices.

For example, Page Speed Insights suggests to defer off-screen images, which would save an estimated loading time of 1.52 seconds on mobile devices.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m sorry for the delay. I work odd hours.

This is the strangest thing. The bar of posts appear on Chrome, but not on Firefox. It also appears on my android phone. Sorry, I didn’t even think to check other browsers.

With your excellent guidance, I was able to adjust my image loading and now I’m at 2.5 seconds with GTmetrix. What a relief! That’s been a three day struggle.

Here’s a screenshot of what I’m talking about. Again, I apologize for not using the correct lingo.

Even though, my load time is now good, I still find this bar annoying.

Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

    Hello @tww2021

Glad to hear you improved your loading time. GTmetrix only gives the load time of desktop devices, so you might need to get their pro version to measure mobile devices too, or use GTMetrix in conjunction with Page Speed Insights or another similar service.

So the bar at the top is probably a sticky header bar of your most recent posts and their associated featured image. Does GeneratePress have an option to disable it?

Thank you again for your response!

Do you know where I would look to disable the sticky header bar? I’ve looked all through the theme customize section and I can’t find anything that says “sticky header”.

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.

I haven’t used GeneratePress before so I don’t know if it is part of that theme or if you have a plugin that is generating the recent posts with thumbnails at the top of your website. Does GeneratePress have a support forum for this?

I just found a GeneratePress forum within the WordPress forum. Brilliant!

I posted in it for help, since I didn’t see anything exactly the same.

    You’re a genius!

    Thanks so much!
