I have a blog and have created the custom taxonomy “Foreign”.

MySite.com/Foreign/Canada, for example, works as it should, but MySite.com/Foreign triggers a 404 error. I’d like to be able to have all of the posts under the Foreign taxonomy show up there.

    Current settings:
Attached to post type Posts (WP Core)
Everything is “true” except for Hierarchical and Rewrite Hierarchical.

I’ve spent at least an hour going through old support posts, and I’ve tried changing things both in the settings and in Elementor, but can’t seem to find the answer. What am I missing?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I had another issue and posted it here, but figured that out, so I am still stuck on the first issue here.

So this isn’t anything to do with what you’ve done or theoretically not done correctly.

WordPress doesn’t offer archives like this for taxonomies, unlike how it does with post types.

It does offer archives for specific terms, which is why “Foreign/Canada” worked but “Foreign” did not.

About 4 years ago, I typed up a blog post that sort of emulates this desire, by making it make use of an “all” tag that each post would receive. Drawback is, is that you get a URL that is “Foreign/all” or whatever term you decide on to append to each.

It can be found at https://pluginize.com/how-to-create-a-taxonomy-archive-in-wordpress/ and I believe it should all still be valid. However it is code-heavy.

Not aware of any other solutions that may exist out in the wild, but last I knew, Core still didn’t offer such things. I’m pretty sure it’s because there’s a 1:1 ratio for post type to post, while a post can have multiple terms from multiple taxonomies.
