    Dear Tomas,
first of all, thank you for a very nice plugin! ??

I have a problem however. I want to use it to make literature references by placing something like [7] or [124] into the text. The numbers refer to a numbered list of literature references. The [7] reference would also be placed in superscript, so at the top of the line. Much in the way that Wikipedia does, for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzyme

Unfortunately, that does not work with your plugin. It will make a reference when I place the number 7 in the text, but not when I place [7].

I am sure other people would want to use the plugin for this purpose as well. Is this something that you could make work for us?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi @sebastianhill,

    Thanks for the message. ??

Our plugin did not support some thing like “[]”, is because in wordpress posts, many blogger like add some shortcodes, based on user requested, I removed “[]”. ??

I checked wiki and I understand what you want, I will try to find a method to support it but not break shortcodes. ??

I have one question, how do you named this kind of “[]” in wiki? Just “literature reference”? Or are there another shorter word? maybe “footnote”? Would you please give me a word so I can named a new function for this request? ??

Thanks, have a happy day. ??

    Best Regards,
    Tomas

Thanks very much for pocking this up, Tomas. I fully understand why you took it out (shortcodes). I remember that I also tried ( ) instead of [ ] and that also did not work.

I don’t thinks these would be called footnotes. The best word that comes to my mind is ‘reference’, as in ‘literature reference’.

    Thanks again.

Oh, one more thing. I am not sure if that makes any difference. But some people also use that [ ] reference in superscript, so at the top of a line.

    Tomas,

    In case this helps:

    > I have one question, how do you named this kind of “[]” in wiki?

In tech English, [ and ] are called square brackets. ({ and } are called curly brackets.) I’m sure they also have names used by printers. Using the shortcode term “reference” for square brackets would be quite clear.

    Hi @sebastianhill and @maddaze,

I have released a new verison 4.2.9 to support your requirement, I have added two new shortcode to support wiki reference format:
    1: [tooltips_wiki_reference]
    You can use
    [tooltips_wiki_reference content='from www.remarpro.com'][1][/tooltips_wiki_reference]
to show wiki reference for [1], or [2].. and so on

2: Also I think if you run a wiki site, you have too many posts need to edit, so for help editor work faster, I added a short shortcode
[ttsref], it have the same functionality of the short code [tooltips_wiki_reference], tts means tooltips, ref means reference
You can use it like this:
    [ttsref content='from www.remarpro.com'][1][/ttsref]

I hope this is what you want, if I miss-understand you, please tell me, I am happy to re-develop to support your requirement. ??

Also if you have any more feature requests, please don’t hesitate to tell me, I will realize it for you. ??

Hi dear friends, thank you very much for teach me how to spelling the correct word, hope you have a blessings day with your family. ??

    Best Regards,

    Hi Tomas,
    thanks for working on this.
However, either I don’t understand what you mean or it does not work yet.

Whenever I enter in the text something like [tooltips_wiki_reference][7][/tooltips_wiki_reference] or like [ttsref][7][/ttsref] then:

    – only [7] is shown, but no tooltip!
    – also some pieces of your code become visible and the formatting of the complete page becomes corrupt. The code that is visible is always something like: ‘);

When I enter [ttsref content='from www.remarpro.com'][1][/ttsref] in fact a tooltip is shown, and no corrupt coding is shown, but the link does not work. However, the main issue that I have is that I am not looking for a tooltip plugin that makes me enter all that, including the tooltip content and link every time I make a specific reference, such as [7].

What I am really looking for is a functionality that simply let’s me define a tooltip ones for [7] and then, automatically, every occurrence of [7] is made into a tooltip, just as your plugin allow to do for normal words.

I understand that you have some issues with shortcodes also using the square brackets [ ]. However, the tooltip functionality also does not work for round brackets ( ). Also, I would have hoped that other shortcode routines would still work. I mean: I would not simply not generate a tooltip for a shortcode that I include, that would not make sense.

I wonder if you see any further options to make this work.

Thanks again very much for your efforts.

    Hi @sebastianhill,

    Thanks for the message. :0

Yes, please use the short code like this:

    [ttsref content=’from www.remarpro.com’][1][/ttsref]

[1] is your tooltips term, and please remember to add tooltips content in shortcode like this:

    content=’from www.remarpro.com’

I built a demo at my site, you can check my menu item “Docs”.

About “automatically”, I am confuse with this, because in your original requests, you said

Much in the way that Wikipedia does, for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzyme

In wiki, each page have a [1], [2]… with different references — in each page, this is big different with add [1] in one time and show [1] with the same content in each page.

I understand my hard work days is wasted…

    Thanks, have a happy day.

    Best Regards,
    Tomas

    Dear Tomas,
I think your day’s work is hardly wasted. The feature that you have created certainly has value. Both for the ‘reference’ purposes that you described, but also for other items, where people may not want to pre-define tooltips, but just want to make a one-off tooltip reference. Well done!

That isn’t really an option for my purpose however. It would be a lot of work and a lot of text, because many of the references occur more than one time.

I understand what you say about a separate reference list (starting with [1], [2], ..) on each page. That is not what I intend. I will have only one single reference list, much like every scientific book or paper would have. However, even in the case of a separate list for each page, I would have appreciated to be able to do that by defining a separate tooltip category for each separate list. That way, each list could start with [1], [2], … as well. Also, one could then show only the list of tooltips that belong to that category.

So, what I am proposing would provide all those options with a lot less need for writing/coding for the user. Also, it makes it much easier to later update a specific reference. Again, the only additional feature that I was looking for is to be able to use [7] as a tooltip keyword.

I hope you understand what I am looking for. I am sure it would be of value for other as well. So, I hope you will be able to see if you can also realize that feature as well in your wonderful plug-in. ??

Thanks again. Have a wonderful day.
    Sebastian
