    Hi All,

Under Tools > Export, I plan on exporting PAGES and POSTS with MEDIA. Does this mean that WordPress will save ALL the media in the uploads folder? (all 3 image sizes, small-medium-large)

OR, does it mean that it will only save the media that is currently being USED on the front-end of the website? (1 size)

    Thank you

When you import the XML, the receiving site will copy over the image files referenced in your export (only those used) and import them to that site’s database and media library.

    Hello @zonwarrior,

Yes, The WordPress will save All the media images in the uploads folder with all the sizes. (Like small, medium, large etc).

    Thanks,

    Yes Right.

As @sterndata mentioned in the reply, At the time of importing the XML file, WordPress will use only exported URL for images and import them to the database + media library.

    Thanks,
    Kakshak

The export will have links to the media on the original site, but it will not contain the media itself.

If you import the file to another site, then it will get the media from that other site at the time of the import, but if you take the original site down before importing it elsewhere, the media will be lost.
