when I upload large amount of photos, the easiest ‘tool’ for me is ftp. For maintaining my photos from the wp-admin, I use the lazyest gallery plugin. This plugin makes thumbnails and slides. Showing photos as a popup image is a built in option.
You can download it at https://lazyest.keytwo.net/index.php/download/

btw, the plugin has not been updated for a long time but it’s still running in my wordpress 2.2 install.

macbrink is right, the best thing you can use for mass uploads of any kind is with some sort of “FTP”. If you use Firefox, which y’all should :), there is a nice extension called FireFTP. I use it and have never had a problem with it.

    Good Luck!!

    MacBrink,

from what you told me about the plugin… it sounds like it’s just what im looking for.

after turning on the plugin I get

It seams like you don’t have the permissions to change Lazyest Gallery’s Options

from the Admin page. and the plugin doesn’t show up in my options tab.

    any ideas?
    i’m using WP 2.1

Lazyest Gallery’s options are stored in the WordPress database. That shouldn’t be a problem when your blog is up and running.
Lazyest Gallery should have write access to the image folders. It stores captions in an xml file, stored in the images folders. Please check if the instance running php has sufficient permissions.
Lazyest Gallery has its own admin tab somewhere on the top row of tabs.

Another option is to look at my plugin AWSOM Pixgallery. Once you upload the images to a folder you simply add a line to a post or page and it will display your images and create the thumbnails and other pop up images automatically. It also supports captions, news link support (if images are names in a certain fashion), and configurable display of the images using javascript. As a plus it’s still being developed and new features are on the way (tagging and other stuff).
It’s hosted here at www.remarpro.com Extend, or for download at my development website https://www.Awsom.org
