This gallery appears with a full-size image (first image in gallery) on your page and thumbnails to the left. Not good for a page where you want to have multiple galleries.

And if you do want to put multiple galleries on the same page, you have to manually create space between the galleries, otherwise the 2nd gallery overlays the 1st, the 3rd gallery overlays the 2nd, etc. And manually creating space doesn’t work reliably from browser to browser or from computer to computer (to tablet to phone ….).

I use a watermark plugin on my images (client is an artist), but watermarks are removed from thumbnails, not a good thing.

Just wondering – Why would someone create a WordPress plugin and not use the WordPress Support forum? Not a fan of GitHub and I certainly don’t want to join yet another website just to get support for one plugin.

Hi, sorry to hear that you don’t like the plugin.

I’m wondering about the reasons you give for your 1 star review.

This gallery appears with a full-size image (first image in gallery) on your page and thumbnails to the left.

From the screenshots provided you can already clearly see this, so if you don’t like that, then why install the plugin and leave a bad rating because of it? Sorry, but to me that makes little sense and I would say that it borders on unfair.

if you do want to put multiple galleries on the same page, you have to manually create space between the galleries…

You are right about this and I am sorry that it is something that I have not taken in consideration when developing the plugin. It is a good point and if you would have opened a support ticket about that, then I could have taken it in consideration (or adjusted the “known limitations” to reflect this).

Same goes for the watermarks on the thumbnails. Why didn’t you open a support ticket about this? Then we could have discussed it. Simply leaving a bad review is not very constructive I think. You don’t even give the name of the watermark plugin!

I can give you the reason why I think the watermark is not “copied over” to the thumbs. I think that the watermark is added not to the original uploaded image, but that the plugin makes a copy of the original and adds the watermark to that. This is most likely done to preserve the original image. The SO Simple Gallery plugin dynamically resizes the images needed for the output and uses the original for that. The original does not contain the watermark, hence the thumbs don’t so either.
So as a matter of fact my plugin does not remove anything from the thumbs. Instead the watermark plugin fails to do its work on the thumbs generated by my plugin ??

Usually it is recommended when you have an issue with a plugin to first open a support ticket. I had a look at your profile page and today alone you opened 4 different support tickets for another gallery plugin.
So this would mean that you left the 1-star review because I prefer to offer support of my plugins via Github? That is pretty extreme, don’t you think?

There are plenty of other developers that choose not to use the support forums offered by www.remarpro.com. Hosting a plugin via www.remarpro.com it is not mandatory to use the support forums. I simply prefer using Github, because there I also do the development. It is easy to receive Pull Requests from other developers and add them to a development branch. The effort on Github is much more collaborative, which is the core of open source development.

If you didn’t want to join you could have opened a support ticket here or contacted me through the plugin’s page on my website.

Anyways, if you feel the need to write more 1-star reviews for other plugins in the future, you might want to have a look at an article that Pippin Williamson wrote a while ago; it’s a very educational piece: https://pippinsplugins.com/how-to-leave-a-good-bad-review/

The screenshot of the gallery does not let me know that this is how the gallery looks on the page. It could be how the gallery opens – which would be great.

As to your other points, I will let others evaluate them, as it may be important for them to know how you respond.

It’s a pity that you left off the rest of your reply.

Fortunately I received it via email, so I will paste it below just so

I will let others evaluate them, as it may be important for them to know how you respond.

The email I received had this additional paragraph you wrote:

You are quite explicit that you don’t want support tickets on the WordPress Support forum, so I’m following your desire here. In GitHub I saw only 2 tickets, 1 open and 1 closed. Not very encouraging.

So what you are saying is that if a plugin has no open tickets it means it is no good? Sorry, I fail to see the logic of that.

    Your reply continues:

If you want to have support tickets to develop a plugin, say so, up front. Some people will want to work with you on that. I’m trying to find a gallery plugin and, like most people, need to use it today. That’s why this review. The plugin is not usable for me, and my review may assist others who are in the same situation.
I opened 4 support tickets for another Gallery plugin because (1) that plugin accepts support tickets on WordPress and (2) the plugin had existing issues with options, in my opinion.

Okay, so the plugin is not usable for you, fine. I still fail to see why that would be a reason to leave a 1-star review. In general 1 star means that it is a really bad plugin. When a plugin is not usable for you, does that mean that it is a really bad plugin?

Anyways, now others that find this thread can better see the whole picture.

It’s up to you to have this discussion in public.

As I said, I’ll let others read and evaluate how you respond.
