too many redirects error

I am getting ‘too many redirects errors’ when trying to redirect following:
https://booksmango.com/author/namer*/ redirects to
https://booksmango.com/author/namer*/downloads/*For name* I would like to add a wildcard as this changes – I tried many different versions but all get the same error and page cannot open (too many redirects).
Can someone help how to set this up correctly?
