I am running Thesis on top of WordPress

As you can see if you scroll down past the main post I have a ridiculous amount of excerpts visible. I want to show 4 but not this many! It is also slowing down the load time of the page (as you would imagine).
My question is how to I reduce this number of excerpts?

    Here are my settings:

I have (under settings-reading): Blog pages show at most 5 posts
Syndication feeds show the most recent 5 items

And under Thesis options: Home Page – Home Page Display: Number of feature posts to show: 1

In theory these settings should give me 1 main blog post and 4 Excerpts but it does not, obviously.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    ESP.

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default theme with all plugins deactivated?

If I switch to the default theme then switch back to my existing theme will all my settings and customizations be saved and returned?
    Never done this before!

All of your settings and customisations for your previous theme will be saved in your database.

Do I need to back up the entire site first?

    That shouldn’t be necessary.

So I switched themes, then switched back again to the original and now the site looks totally default? Ahhh!: https://www.eastsidepatch.com
    Help!

No – switch the the default 2012 theme and leave it for a while to see if you have the same problem.

I switched to the WRC Theme Viewer? Is this the right one? It was so slow I could hardly use it!

Do you think one of my plugins could be the issue?

Okay I will try the 2012 template now!

Struggling with this…I have switched to the 2012 theme (as you can see) but it appears to be opening up every post in the blog (which is quite large) It crashes firefox within a few minutes. Now trying chrome.

So I had to revert back to the original Thesis theme. 2012 was opening every blog post on the site even though the settings were set to display 5. Do you have any other suggestions that I could try to resolve this issue?

2012 was opening every blog post on the site

Can you clarify what you mean by this?

    Thread Starter ESPatch

    (@espatch)

Meaning that every blog posting that I have ever written was being opened /extracted by the 2012 them when I activated it. Nothing was archived. This made the theme unusable because it was so slow. It also crashed firefox. It was like the 2012 theme was not recognizing all my excerpts as excerpts on my site and was treating them like open posts?
    Hope this helps.

    Fixed the problem.

All of my blog posts were posted as ‘stickies’ so they were overriding the wordpress defaults as to how many posts were visible on the front page.
I made them all ‘unsticky’…problem solved and website speeded up.
