Hi! I’m wondering if there is a limit to the number of Google Analytics accounts that Site Kit will display in the drop down menu? I have access to hundreds and am finding that some are missing even though I’ve verified that I have admin access to them and am logging in with the same account.

Thanks for reaching out @uogecko. Great question also. There is a limit the number of properties that Site Kit can display. This stands at 200 at present, and this is a Google Analytics API limitation, see this comment.

In relation to the number of accounts, which you asked specifically about, there may also be a limit. I’ll need to check this with the team to see if we’re using the 200 limit permitted by the Analytics API. Please allow me some time to check this. I’ll have an update for you on at some stage this week. Thank you!

Thanks for the quick reply, James – I appreciate it. This must be why we’re not seeing all of the accounts we have access to. This is causing a problem because it’s preventing us from choosing the correct analytics profile from the drop down list. Could there be an option to “load more” if the API only allows 200?

No problem @uogecko, happy to assist.

I can check and see if there is a workaround or way to ensure you can select your preferred account if there is a limit. One possible work around which you may wish to perform is to manually insert your Google Analytics snippet, using your preferred GA4 measurement ID. When doing so, it’s possible that this will be pre-selected when connecting the Analytics module.

Another option is to connect Tag Manager before Analytics for this site. When doing do, be sure to use a container that has a GA4 tag, which uses your preferred GA4 property.

I’ll report back to you here when I have an update to your queries.

Hi James – when you suggest manually inserting the GA4 ID, are you suggesting adding the tracking code to the WordPress theme or are you saying that the Site Kit plugin has a way of allowing you to insert it manually somehow?

@uogecko I was referring to manually inserting the Analytics code, into your theme files. I saw this as Site Kit can recognize a manually inserted snippet, using that to display metrics. Users then can connect the Analytics module, without using the plugin to insert the snippet if they wish.

Feel free to give that a try. Disconnect the Analytics module if already connected, then manually add your snippet, before then connecting the module within Site Kit. The plugin will recognize this manually insertered snippet, and it may be pre-selected within the dropdown you were referring to.

@uogecko Just following up with you to check whether you’ve since been able to connect Site Kit with your preferred Analytics account by following the suggested steps?

I also discussed your case with the team. From doing so, and from some checks, it looks like users are limited to 100 Google Analytics accounts, so you may have more than 100 Analytics accounts that you have access to (Analytics accounts that you have access to, but that you did not create). Can you share whether your Google account was granted access to a large number of Google Analytics accounts?

Note also that if you were unable to connect Site Kit to your preferred Google Analytics account, by following the steps suggested previously in this thread, you can set up Site Kit with Google Analytics using a different Google account, which does have access to the preferred property.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

James, I sure appreciate you following up on this. We have not been able to connect Site Kit with the analytics account because it doesn’t appear in the list. I have verified that the same Google account I am logging in with is an administrator at the account level (I created the GA account). Our agency has over 200+ Google Analytics accounts all administered with the same Google account. I deleted some that were dormant in the hopes that it would allow me to select the profile I want but that didn’t help.

Google does impose a limit to the number of Google Analytics accounts you can have BUT they also allow you to request that the limit be raised which we’ve done a number of times.

We really like to minimize the number of plugins we use and one of the advantages of Google Site Kit is that it lets us connect Tag Manager, Analytics and Search Console all with one plugin.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you!

Appreciate the update @uogecko. From discussing this with the team, what you’re facing is more an edge case, with not so many users having access to 200 plugin Google Analytics accounts. I will discuss this further and see if there is anything that can be done in such cases. Note that we are limited to what the Analytics reporting API provides for, so the questions I’ll be asking is more to confirm the order, or whether the order of what’s shown can be modified.

In the meanwhile, to ensure you can set up Site Kit with your preferred GA4 property, can you share whether this GA4 account and property is preselected in the Site Kit selection boxes if you first of all manually add the associated GA4 tag to your site? If you need assistance capturing the code to manually enter on your site, let me know. The snippet should look something like what you see here, although with your own GA4 measurement ID.

Alternatively, what you can do is set up the Analytics module within Site Kit using a different Google account, which does have access to your preferred GA4 property.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
