    Hello,

I use Cloudways as my host and they recently informed me that a few plugins were sending too many AJAX requests. The top one was wp mail smtp with over 4000 requests. Please check the screenshot here: https://i.imgur.com/zFukpz9.png

Is this normal. How can I fix this issue?

    Warm regards,

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @hbk747

Thanks for reaching out. That certainly is strange. Just to confirm are you using an unmodified version of WP Mail SMTP? Also, have you already tried re-installing a fresh copy just to ensure that this version was not corrupted?

Also, what mailer are you currently using? I’ll share what you have mentioned so far and the answers to those questions with our developers so that we can get back to you with the most relevant response ??

    Hello,

it isn’t a modified version. Also I have not tried reinstalling it yet. Will try that and let you know.

The mailer is the default one – php

    Hi @hbk747

Thanks for getting back to us.

Please ensure that you are actually using a service mailer because with the default mailer, you are essentially sending emails as if you did not have WP Mail SMTP installed (basically it is using the default WordPress email settings).

You can find instructions outlined in this section of our documentation: https://wpmailsmtp.com/docs/a-complete-guide-to-wp-mail-smtp-mailers/

Some are paid and others are free, so as a good start you can consider the Google mailer (free), SendLayer (free trial), Brevo (free tier) or the Other SMTP mailer.

Hello, I use the plugin to send transactional/wordpress emails. Cloudways informed me that I have to download this plugin to receive emails. I had to buy a cloudways add-on called Elastic email and then when I set that up, they told me to download this plugin. After that I have been able to successfully receive transactional emails. I do not use this plugin to send emails myself.

    Warm regards

I had a conversation with Cloudways about this:

Me: however my question is why do I need this plugin? Shouldnt I receive transactional emails without this plugin?

Cloudways: Thank you so much for sharing your query with me. Let me guide you on this.

Cloudways: Please be informed that the first elastic email is configured on the server level, and a server can host multiple apps at the same time. So in order to create a relay through a specific website we recommend using a plugin like WP MAIL SMTP.

The relay needs to be created through the website for smooth deliveries of emails.

The relay is created on all kinds of websites, whether wordpress Magento, laravel, etc.

The wordpress sites uses plugin and the other CMSs using their own funcionality.

Me: so I should keep it installed but there is one issue

Cloudways: Yes, you should keep it installed.

Me: two days back cloduways shared this picture with me

Me: hey said that these apps were taking up resources

    Cloudways:Let me check.

I checked the screenshot, could you please confirm if the CPU is still high on your server?

Thank you for holding on I have checked the CPU is normal right now:

Cloudways: Regarding the plugin usage that you are mentioning, please note that the plugin itself is not the issue here, as the email deliveries from the website are high, which is why the plugin is used that many times. Since the email deliveries are high, so even if you use any alternative plugins like fluent SMTP or Easy SMTP those plugins will also appear in the slow logs.

Me: but my emails are not that high. Currently only 54/1000

Cloudways: If the emails are not high, then the plugin itself is taking longer to execute the functionalities, I would suggest you to consult this with a developer and check if they suggest any alternative with the plugins.

Me: I will ask the plugin developers.

    Hi @hbk747

Thanks for getting back to us.

This line in particular implies that the re-installation resolved the issue:

“Thank you for holding on I have checked the CPU is normal right now:”

If the issue returns, you can let us know, but right now it seems that the issue was potentially related to the previous version/copy of the WP Mail SMTP.
