The backup files are very large and numerous, even though we don’t upload images to our website’s storage space, but rather to external hosting sites.

Also, we don’t use the blog, only a forum [bbPress] with approximately 1500 topics.

In addition, the size of an entire folder [public_html] does not exceed 300 megabytes approximately.

Why do we find that the backup is approaching 4 gigabytes?

    Hi,

To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the full backup log?
This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab. The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Kind Regards,
    Bryle

    Your “Others”is really quite large.

Your others is standard WP files included in every WP install such as languages.

It’s also has things like cache. I would download and unpack your others to see what’s in there.

If you don’t need the files, don’t back it up. I don’t include my Others as it’s just cache and files that will automatically be added when I install a fresh copy of WordPress

    OMG! Are you sure sir?
These files are large and cause a major obstacle to us on many sites.

Edit to add: How can I do it?

To check the files, the quickest way would be to download them straight from your remote storage.

I would check what’s in them before make a decision. I would also do a test restore on local host or a test site to make sure that your site restored OK without them.

To exclude the “Others” from scheduled backups, goto the settings tab and uncheck the option next to “Any other directories…”: https://snipboard.io/x4FQ5m.jpg
