    Hi

On my site https://breaktheparentingmold.com/ I have had a ton of views already today, but proportionately almost no referrer links.

I know it’s not spam, because this post has been getting a ton of traffic lately. But I’ve never had it happen that I can’t see where the traffic is coming from.

Is this a glitch? I know the post was shared in someone’s email newsletter. Is it possible that I am not seeing the traffic that is getting clicked through the newsletter?

    Thanks!

  • From my personal experience, not sure if this is 100% right –

It’s possible that a bulk of the traffic is coming from the email newsletter. It’s also possible that if your post trended on Pinterest, that the traffic is coming from the Pinterest app rather than pinterest.com. I’ve had a lot of experience with the latter – some article trending on Pinterest but it not showing up as even remotely near as high as it should for referral traffic.

Even Google Analytics doesn’t know where every single bit of traffic comes from, so unfortunately, you’ll have to work off of what you do know to figure out where the rest might be coming from.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Elise is definitely on the right track. Jetpack can capture referrer information for traffic coming from other web properties, like a webmail client or Pinterest.com. It cannot, however, capture referrer information when the traffic comes from a desktop app, like a desktop Mail client, or a mobile app, like the Pinterest app.

I would suggest looking at the referrer information you have to get some tips on what could cause the traffic spike. If you see tons of referrals from pinterest.com for example, then it’s most likely that a lot of your traffic also comes from the Pinterest app. If you see webmail clients like Hotmail or Gmail, chances are you were included in a newsletter.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you both. That sounds completely right.
