tokens to place Event listings in template

I’ve got a WordPress 4.9.8 website with the Events Calendar plugin.

What I’d like to do is have a couple tokens that I can place on the home page, so I can pass the latest Event title, tagline and link. The site’s using a modified Astrid theme.

I’ve seen a couple token apps that looked like they weren’t being maintained.

What’s the best plugin and/or approach to do what I want?
