• Today I updated Twenty Eleven theme via the admin panel to v 1.3.

This has caused my child theme changes to add the sidebar to single post and pages to be shown incorrectly.

I have checked and the changes are still in place (in the child theme) but they are no longer working since the update.

The changes that were applied are detailed in this post:

    https://surminski.eu/2011/07/06/add-sidebar-to-single-post-in-the-wordpress-3-2-twentyeleven-theme/

Everything worked fine until today’s update to 1.3 now single posts and pages have the sidebar but it is below the main content not to the side of it.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • That post describes how to edit the parent theme (which you should never do) – not the child theme.

Yes sorry I should have made that clear, I made the changes to the underlying child theme that i created.

So you have custom functions.php and single.php files in your child theme? Updating the parent theme will not have touched those files.

Just checked my install, where I’d added sidebars to my child theme. Nothing in the update messed up my layout.

Did you accidentally do any portion of the tutorial in the parent theme? Something as simple as a css edit, or adding the function to remove the class?

Yes I think that i must have. Anyway I have it working again now. Thank you to you and Esmi.

I am concerned that updating to twenty eleven 1.4 will remove the changes I made with Theme Extension plug in and to my header image.
    Should I be concerned?
