• Hello.

    As a beginner, I’d welcome any advice…

Where should I install WordPress- in the root directory, sub directory, or some combination?

What are the advantages/ disadvantages of each option?

I’ve read background on setting up but most blogs I see don’t have https://www.domain.com/blog.

    Thank you in advance.

    BG

  • It depends on what you want to do with the WP site. If the site will be the main site, then why not just install it in the root. If you have a website and want to add a WP blog, you may want to put it in a dedicated directory.

whether you install in a folder or not does not effect whether your blog is seen as https://www.domain.com/blog or as https://www.domain.com

You can install into your main directory, and have your blog show as being a subdirectory. you just need to have that index.php located inside of the directory you want to use and edit the require line so that it points at your wp-blog-header.php file wherever your install is.
