• I thought this seemed too good to be true. But I never suspected foul play.

This is a nasty plugin that fails to remind you that if your site is bigger than a picture of a cat, copies of your site in this way could end up crashing your server, going over your allocated space and even getting your site suspended…14 copies is virtually fantasy land.

Firstly, it gave me a 2mb ‘backup’ when my site is around 400mb.

Then I managed to do a full backup. It failed….and failed.

My site is about 400mb which is nothing compared to many. I realized that 14 copes of 400 would be way over my space anyway. Even saving one copy would be a struggle.

    Horrible.

I’m sorry that you had a bad experience with BackUpWordPress.

Were you aware that your hosting provider limits your allocated disk space?

You could have avoided going over your space limit by limiting the number of backups in the schedule settings.

The default setting can be changed, and you’ll see an estimated total size which you should compare to what your hosting provider allows you.

Also, I found a few plugins here that can monitor your remaining space for you, though I haven’t tried any personally.

We’re there to help and welcome suggestions for improvements and feature additions.

    Regards,
    Paul

I use this plugin often, for a dozen or so sites at least now, for about two years. It’s quite good. It certainly doesn’t crash your server if you go over the disk space limit.

It would be a nice feature, if the plugin would send a notification when the backup fails, but let’s not forget this is a free service, unless you want the premium extensions.

I don’t think it’s fair that you give it a bad rating for something that the developer can do nothing about.

Also, depending on the content, a backup of the database only, which is the default setting, can be quite small, even just a few MB, so that’s not a mistake per se.

    Thanks for the support!

If you enable email notifications then you should get an email if there are issues with a backup.

I didn’t even know this. I never get these mails, about there being an issue because the plugin works fine ??

Heh, in an ideal world, no-one would know about that feature ??
