Why can one person not follow a thread started by another person despite of the fact that the issue is exactly the same.

I just want to know because it makes more sense to me, that several persons participate, when they all have the same issue.

Hi @koesterandersen, You can certainly follow someone’s thread. There is a link in the sidebar that says “Subscribe to Topic”.

We discourage people to post in a thread for the sake of saying “me too” because it is not helpful to the issue at hand.

    Hi Andrew

    Thank you for your answer.

What if a person has something helpful to add to a thread, will this then be ok, or does the person need to start a new thread.

Yea it’s fine if people are adding to the thread. For example, “I received this issue when I did X, Y and Z” – because that can help the volunteers recreate the issue. Note that it can be a thin line between helpful and unhelpful; due to the variations in people’s environments, it is very difficult to tell that your issue is the same as someone else’s (other than to assume).

If you have a suggestion or a solution to offer in a topic, we would all be more than happy for you to post it. It’s the “Me too” and “I’ve have a similar problem (aka something that looks the same but is actually a completely different issue)” hijacking posts that create problems for those who are actively trying to help.

    Hi Andrew and Esmi

Now I am beginning to see the concept of participating in threads.

But I might by accident get into the trap of hijacking posts again, but I will try to concentrate more in order to participate in a proper way.

Thanks again – I will mark this as resolved.

We do try to assess each “incident” on a case-by-case basis but we’re all human too, so we may make the odd mistake here & there which we will probably rectify if asked. All in all, our aim is just to try and get everyone’s questions answered & problems sorted as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you think you can answer a question, then please dive in. We’ll never object to that. ??
