• I have recently linked an existing domain, that was not on WordPress, to a new design in WordPress. I had a development page at a totally different subdomain that I used for development. After the transfer several links on pages would still refer to the development domain. I managed to fix that and all is well.

However… there is some weird phenomenon left that I do not know how to fix. Not sure it is connected to the transfer.

I have a page with a lot of links to documents. When clicked, they open nicely and can also be downloaded. However, the title of the browser tab shows a completely different name than that of the document I opened.

You can replicate it on this page:
    https://al-anon.alateen.on.ca/area-policy-manual/

Open the link attached to the chapter described in this page as:

The document I expect to be opened and displayed in the new tab is:
    section-2A-Executive-2017-08.pdf

When opened, it is visible that this is indeed what is opened:
    https://al-anon.alateen.on.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/section-2A-Executive-2017-08.pdf

However, the title of the tab and the title briefly shown when hovering over the PDF in Chrome (Safari might handle this differently) is different:

‘Section 2B – Executive’ and this is also what is shown when hovering over the top part of the PDF. When the document is downloaded the correct name is used and the correct document will land in the download folder.

This is causing some issues with the visitors of the site who have a keen eye for detail, without, however, being technically inclined and it makes them insecure about whether they now have the correct document.

I did a couple of things to investigate the phenomenon but have not found the cause. Would like to find it though. Any Sherlock Holmes WordPress detectives out there who can help?

    The things I double checked:
-go to the media folder, find the document and look in its details: all is well there.
-tried to find anything to do with permalinks, did not find it for the file downloads.

For your information: the link is made with the Co-Block File.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions for a solution!

“Section 2B – Executive” is part of the document properties, the browser is just supplying data from the file itself. The document ought to be edited with Acrobat or re-created from source using the correct properties.

If you just want to change the “B” to an “A” you could probably hack the file with a hex editor. Keep a backup of the original because hacking PDF files is a dicey proposition.
